Jazzmaster pickup routes size/shape

I know Jazzmasters have larger pickup mounting routes in the body than they do on the pickguard, in order to accommodate wiring from the rhythm circuit, but I'm building a custom guitar with JM pickups and a simple 3-way switch, so I don't need the extra space around the pickups, right? The same hole I'd rout into the pickguard will also hold the pickup in the body, right? I've never used JM pickups before and I don't have them on hand yet so I thought I'd ask here. Thanks in advance.
