High E Goin outa Whack! Wi trems
Dunno if this has been broached already..
Any one had a prob wi high E strings snapping with use of whammy?
The main culprit for me is my Jazzmaster.. Not an issue with my mustang trem.
This is vexing.
I find a solution to this is to solder "souder" the string at the ball end where the wire is twisted.
Sorry.. Cant post a picture as my phone is Jurassic .
Where I first heard about this I do not know but it deffo takes longer to bust em.

Mine don't snap, they unwind. Always the top E. If it goes seriously out of tune shortly before breaking, that's an unwinding.
I was recommended soldering where the string wraps around itself. I now always do it and it has worked for me.

Re: High E Goin outa Whack! Wi trems
i`d love to know the reason why this happens. There must be a common reason.
I have had this happen on a CIJ jazzmaster (in my avatar) which was so annoying that I eventually sold the guitar.
It never happens on my CP jazz, and it hasn`t happened my my paisley JM yet (touch wood).
I`m hoping someone has an idea as to what acutally causes this problem as it has been talked about a lot.

Yep, common problem .
I had that problem with all my Jazzmasters and Jaguars , with D’addario or Labella strings .
Now I use Fender super bullets strings and no more problem .

I luv Diaddarios but switched to Ernie Balls which seem more robust.

ya, it's usually D'Addario strings that are the culprit. I use GHS strings and don't have this issue. I've never had the issue with LaBella strings either, though.

Do yours break near the ball end or somewhere else ? That's the first question in targeting cause/fix.Nudger wrote: ↑Wed Jan 27, 2021 10:19 amDunno if this has been broached already..

Re: High E Goin outa Whack! Wi trems
i've used daddario for decades just based on price and availability. but lord do they suck for this vibrato. soldering works but it deadens some of the fun overtones and not everyone has a soldering iron.
I used a spare 'emergency only' set of slinky 7 years old from my drawer on my JM after a d'addario broke. no issue at all for 2 months now. used to hate slinky strings but they're lovely now due to not breaking.
my bass vi has its first set of stringjoy and i've not had a problem for months.
my jaguar broke two d'addario 10s within minutes even after polishing the tailpiece for any burrs.

solder works. Been using Daddario 11-52s forever, definitely needs solder!

Or you could just buy GHS Boomers which are just as widely available as D'Addarios, especially in the internet age, and do not suffer from this problem. I don't understand why so many offset users are so stubbornly loyal to D'Addario even with the knowledge that their strings are not really optimal for their guitars... very weird. No solder needed.

Personally, I don't dig the sound and don't dig the feel of GHS (or EB) strings. I used to play D'A, then Dunlop, and more recently Stringjoy (feel slick like the Dunlops, sound like the D'A NYXL, but are more consistent and last longer than either one for me). Personally, if I was still playing D'A and it was either get D'A and have to solder ball ends or buy GHS, I'd keep the soldering iron accessible.adamrobertt wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 8:07 pmOr you could just buy GHS Boomers which are just as widely available as D'Addarios, especially in the internet age, and do not suffer from this problem.
