Gabriel Tenorio Strings
Anyone else using these? I had my Jazzmaster set up with them. Now I want them on everything.
I’ve played most of the common brands over the years. I usually keep Ernie Ball around because you can get them almost anywhere. These just sound good.

I tried to buy some, but the shipping cost to the other side of the world was a problem. I know Curtis Novak uses them, so that's a fair endorsement.

I bought through Chicago Music Exchange. They don’t stock all sizes, but the super 10’s they do. They work great on my JM.

I'm not sure where you are, but James Gascoigne at www.homeoftone.co.uk brings them into the UK. He's a good chap to deal with and could be worth an email.
I use them on my JM and love 'em too.

Just ordered a couple of sets for my Jaguar and Mustang - expensive, but my last couple of guitars have come with NYXLs and those are $12.99 at GC so the difference isn't that extreme if they really last a long time.

I also use NYXL’s. I’m interested in your take of these GT’s.

Re: Gabriel Tenorio Strings
I have been mostly using NYXLs 10s for the last couple months, but tried 2 sets of the Gabriel Tenorio Super 10s before going back to the NYXLs. I liked the way that the Gabriel Tenorio strings sounded for the most part (very balanced), but the low E sounded pretty dead on both sets (on two different JMs). I tried re-doing my setup and messing with the nut slots when I installed the second pair, but I just couldn't get used to that low E sound. Granted, my only experience with roundcores, so maybe that is part of the sound.
They did last a long time though and were very stable with trem usage. Ultimately I just liked the snap (zingyness?) of the NYXLs and they last me quite a long time as well.

I'd never heard of these strings, but got some 11-50s on a whim after reading this thread. So far I really like the feel of them and tuning has been very stable. Going to give them a workout in practice tomorrow.

Re: Gabriel Tenorio Strings
So I gave the JM50s chance for a week but they weren't for me. If anybody wants them, I'll send them to you for just the cost of shipping. I took these off carefully, and they were cut to fit a Jazzmaster, so as long as that's what you're putting them on you should be fine.. Just send me a PM, I'd hate to see them just go to waste.

I've been using the 11-50 and love them. They stay in tune, sound great, and last a long time.

I think this is a fair review. I also went back to NYXLs after giving GT strings a fair run. NYXLs breakup better to my ear.kingmedicine wrote: ↑Sun Oct 21, 2018 7:59 amI have been mostly using NYXLs 10s for the last couple months, but tried 2 sets of the Gabriel Tenorio Super 10s before going back to the NYXLs. Definitely a quality product. The wait time, cost, and service are all things you'll have to come to grips with if you want to use them.

Re: Gabriel Tenorio Strings
Hi everyone,
Just thought I would revive this thread, as I'm interested in this brand of strings. Are they worth it compared to similar round core strings such as Pyramid, Thomastik, Mangan, GHS Boomers (John from Mastery Bridge doesn't recommend handmade strings he recommends GHS for Mastery hardware), Newtone, Stringjoy Broadways, DR Pure Blues?
The reason why I ask is because I live in the UK and the only dealer for these strings was James's Home of Tone. James doesn’t really stock them now and stated:
"Hand on heart, the only reason I stopped was availability. They proved to be great strings which meant I began to grow the reputation over here quite well considering they are a more premium price point for strings. But it was just getting hard to obtain stock reliably and regularly enough. He's a one man show, just like me, but it meant building up stock orders regularly seemed tricky for him to manage alongside his other dealers and his direct orders to be honest, with some orders taking months (6-9 in most cases) to prepare which left me in situations where regular customs who loved them, got frustrated that I couldn't source them regularly enough. That led to customers buying a lot of sets in one go when I did receive my batches of stock, making it harder again to have consistently available stock levels to accommodate everyone. Even with some planning in advance, it just wasn't really working to tell the truth. Great strings, and the majority of people that tried them, loved them. But I guess for the most part, people are simply used to grabbing strings when they need them. The prospect of not knowing when they will be able to buy a set next, or buying multiple sets of premium priced strings in one go to ensure they had enough to cover them long enough, frustrated most buyers it seems which I totally get."
The reasons outlined above were always a factor in the past when I looked at this brand, so I never tried them. However, due to Bass VI string issues with Mastery vibratos, Tenorio seemed like a good option for that particular guitar and I won't be changing strings as often on a Bass compared to a guitar. I can also order direct from Tenorio, and I have a US shipping address to send them too, so I could buy in bulk and get them sent over to the UK at a later time. I suppose, I just wondered if this brand was worth the extra trouble if you don't live in the US. I must admit that I am used to just being able to buy strings when I need them.

Re: Gabriel Tenorio Strings
There is/was another brand, Snake Oil (discussed here on OSG I think, but more on TGP), that was hard to find and apparently had mystical properties. When some of those strings arrived I did not hear the magic. I say all this as a person that is skeptical of people making claims about certain strings being majorly better than other ones. Obviously the metals used and hex vs round core will affect tone (along with any coatings).GAZINGUK wrote: ↑Wed Oct 23, 2024 4:42 amJust thought I would revive this thread, as I'm interested in this brand of strings. Eventually the Tenario strings I ordered arrived. I guess I was not impressed with them enough to get back on this thread and comment at the time, but they came with a cool pick. Of the strings you listed I have played Mangan, Pyramid, & Thomastic. The Tenoirio strings were fine, but I can't say that I noticed any magical properties in those strings compared to other ones. They just came in cooler packaging and it was slightly more rewarding helping a small muso business person instead of a medium sized business and/or a faceless corporation.
