I also think you can't go wrong with either; the Lollars in my JM are fantastic and so are the Novaks in my Tele.
I think you'll be very happy with either.

My consideration would be that right now Novak JM-V + JM90 cost 215 dollars, while Lollar JM-V + JM90 cost 240. So I'd go with Novak.

To hear both JM-V's (not the P90s unfortunately), visit the pickup comparison thread;

I inadvertently found out that I could "adjust" the pole pieces on lollar pickups. If thats an issue for you.
How feasible is this in terms of someone else getting away with it? I mean, this sort of thing usually results in total disaster, right?

However, I'm tempted; because you've done it, and it may help my string balance.

Did you use gentle tapping?

Good way to sever a coil and kill a pickup

Well exactly. Yes!

I realise that I'd be better off buying a new set of flat pole pickups and selling the lollars at a slight loss if it works, out rather than totally destroying them and losing their value completely.

Was just curious as to what our friend here did or discovered exactly.

UPDATE: Don't worry - I've ordered some unradiused pickups :)

Yes probably not greatest of advice. I came to find out when I went to fit a fender cover on the lollar pickup. The early versions have a slightly wider spacing & the pole peices budged loose. I even eventually pushed all the polepeices completely out & reversed them to match a AVRI neck pickup, which was RW but not RP. Must have got lucky I guess.

Wow! Completely out. Amazing. :o

Whilst I defintely won't be attempting any of that... it's an interesting data point, nevertheless. Especially given that I would never have thought it possible. Thanks for finishing the the story.
