Shim placement
Hoping someone can confirm for me how these little Fender AVRI factory shims go in the pocket. They fell out when I removed the neck before I could take note of where they were placed
Are they stacked and then pushed all the way to the front (front meaning deep in pocket toward the pickups)?
Thanks for your help.

Re: Shim placement
They most likely were placed from thin to thick, with the thickest one in the corner (where the pickup is).
Those look home-made. Honestly, do yourself a favor and get a set of neck shims. 0.25 and/or 0.5 usually do the trick. Easy to use, fool proof, and better for the neck (they can distort from long term unequal pressure caused by shims that are smaller than the foot print of the neck / neck pocket).

And watch a Puisheen vid on YouTube about setting up JMs and Jags.

+1 on these pre-made tapered shims. I've used them a few times with great results.
I've also made my own. I've ordered maple or ebony wood veneer, and then hand shaped them, tapering off to a razor-thin edge.
I'll say, it's VERY difficult to get it as precise as the pre-made ones, and really not worth the time and effort. Buy the pre-mades.

I've been pretty happy with these that I've ordered from Amazon a bunch of times. You can get them in three packs, either three of the same size or one each of the three sizes, for $10.RockStarNick wrote: ↑Mon May 13, 2024 4:21 am+1 on these pre-made tapered shims. Re: Shim placement
+1 on chinese shims from Amazon. I can't say for sure how accurate they are to the stated angles, or how they compare to the stewmac shims but the "muspor" branded ones I got worked very well. The only issue I had was they were slightly too big for the pocket so I had to trim mine down a bit to fit.

I had to trim the ones from Stewmac too.

I'll give the Amazon shims a try. I'e only used StewMac in the past, but if I can save a few bucks and get the same result, I'm in.
