UK - Neck Pocket Shims

Post by GreenKnee » Mon Jan 16, 2023 1:50 pm

Now available from crimson guitars: https://www.crimsonguitars.com/products ... 0b67&_ss=r

Annoyingly, just last week I ordered from stewmac along with a super switch 6-way thing that I have since learned that Bare Knuckle sell...

I've never actually bought anything from Crimson, not affiliated etc. just sharing the shims

Crimson Guitars - isn't that the shop with the YouTube videos with that guy with the tribal scalp tattoos?

Glad you've got a local source for these now. Ordering shims from the US sucks, even as a Canadian. I paid for StewMax this year (the shipping breakeven point is like 2-3 orders) but the packages take forever to get here. I literally have a StewMac order I placed a month and a half ago that hasn't shown up yet. I have like three projects being held up by it.
The artist formerly known as mbene085.

It is...and he has the most plummy posh British accent which is quite the juxtaposition against his look! I quite enjoy his videos sometimes.
Silly Rabbit, don't you know scooped mids are for kids?

He sounds South African to me.

Rejoice! Have seen the stewmacs for years but shipping a sliver of wood across the Atlantic was a bit extortionate (unless perhaps you have a whole package of things to ship)

I grabbed a 0.5. hopefully correct. I need more than the business card in there but no way to tell. I suppose it might be ok to add the business card on top and still get advantage from it as the alternative to a thick stack of card shims.

shims

here's another option on Amazon. I have a feeling that everyone is buying these from China and having a custom logo put on.

So i paid two weeks ago, and i know strikes are happening but there has been no confirmation of dispatch email (as the order email stated there would be, nor reply for two emails querying Crimson Guitars!

Just going to cancel in a couple of days if there is absolutely zero customer service.

Tracking is through an app called "shop" which no, I am not getting such a data intensive thing just for something you can provide a number for. It literally wants permission into seeing my whole email account, so no!

What a nightmare, sorry you're having issues. I've never shopped with Crimson guitars but you'd think with their online presence they'd be up to speed on the customer service side of things - even if there's a delay let people know so they're not waiting expectantly every day.
I hope they sort it soon! Maybe try giving them a bell tomorrow, the phone number on their site is 01300 348863

I have been waiting for 2-3 weeks for 3 different parcels from the UK (staytrem, earl pilanz and homeoftone) with no tracking info whatsoever.. Then one of the shops (James from homeoftone - I can totally recommend him!) contacted me and told me that Royal Mail has been hacked (they suspect by Russian hackers) and therefore couldn't send anything international for over 10 days.. they wouldn't even take any new shipments because their system was down and asked everyone to be patient - whole story here
Royal Mail

They just started with international shipments this weekend but have to deal with all the parcels stacking up for weeks so massive delays are still expected and the tracking system often still doesn't show updates

No excuse for Crimson guitars not relaying that info to their customers of course..

Domestic deliveries are close to being unaffected according to that. I am in the UK. I expected strike delays anyway but not a dispatch end delay.

I'm based in Germany and at this stage there's no option for a good neck shim.
I don't want to import from the US. And UK orders are not possible due to the Royal Mail hack.
Also I'm not willing to pay 20€ and more for a piece of wood.

So I'm planning to use a friends workshop to make my own shim.
He's a wood worker and has all the tools and machinery.
My question now is: what dimensions should a shim have to fit into the pocket of my CIJ JM?
Also what angle should I aim for? 1° seem the most common for JM(?)
