I want to play 11’s, but where my nail meets my finger tip is agony

I'm the same. In fact, in the oldest poll I could find I found this:marqueemoon wrote: ↑Sun Jan 23, 2022 9:20 amI’ve been using 11s on all electric guitars for decades. It started when I got my first JM.
I tend to pull notes sharp when using lighter strings and prefer the sound and feel of slightly heavier wound strings.
I’ve considered trying the light top/heavy bottom thing on my Tele, but I dunno.
I probably won’t go lighter until my creaky hands tell me I need to.
...from almost 12 years ago that confirms I'm pretty much still the same - bar taking it up to 12-54 now I'm on shortscales.johnnysomersett wrote: ↑Fri Aug 27, 2010 7:29 amErnie Ball 11-54's, plain G. Though I'm tempted to try a wound (22w) just for kicks on the next change.
Silly Rabbit, don't you know scooped mids are for kids?

This. Perfect for me. I don’t really use the trem so 10s work great for all scales. I love the slightly slacker feel on Jag & mustangs especially.
I have nothing to offer anybody, except my own confusion?

Re: 2022 Gauge Poll - let's see if anything's changed?
I tried 11s when I first got my Jaguar and realised that I just didn't like them, despite many people suggesting that is the gauge to go for (at least, some suggesting 12s).
I've gone to 10-52 now on the Jaguar, which has a Staytrem bridge (and I've locked the trem as well, since I never use a trem). Seems to work well, though I may just drop to 10-46 same as my Gibsons just to make it simpler. There is plenty of adjustment left on the intonation, neck relief, etc should it be needed.
I have to change to Elixir coated strings because I was having a problem with rusting Ernie Ball strings on various guitars during summer. They were rusting within a 3 hour rehearsal having changed them that afternoon. I worked out what gauges I could get for my various guitars as I like to have them feeling similar: 9.5 on my Fenders, 10-46 on Gibsons and 10-52 on the Jaguar. Only problem is that they don't do a 9.5 gauge on Elixirs, so I'm using D'Addario which don't seem to rust as quickly as the EB were, though it might be the colder weather at the root of this.
I'm sure years ago, before the internet, I just used 9s on everything, though I didn't have a Jaguar back then anyway.

Re: 2022 Gauge Poll - let's see if anything's changed?
Always and forever .11's or higher if I can find them. My high-school best friend first brought it up that Tom Morello used thicc strings. He'd let his Tele sit for weeks between practices and it was always in tune.
I even use .11s on acoustics. All .11 everything.
It was always just the done thing. Whenever I put .10's on by accident...
People who play .9's are monsters.

If it wasn't for disappointment, I wouldn't have any appointments.
