Kauer copies on Reverb

Post by Johnny Alien » Fri Feb 05, 2016 7:39 pm

I have no idea how long these have been around and maybe somewhere here pointed this out before but it looks like some company is making Kauer copies.

I don't think I like my reply here any more, so I have changed it.

Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

Doug is beyond talented. I don't see how, or why these look like Kauer copies? That is almost offensive to Doug! :D

I get the feeling this guy is just buying bodies and paddle-headstock necks, possibly doing some finish work, and assembling parts...

That doesnt look like a Kauer model to me. Kauer does make copies of slightly altered Firebirds though,

So maybe this qualifies as the same? Slightly modified Kauer copy?

So maybe....

Copying = No good.

Altering designs = Good

He's no distant and out of touch corporation. I hope I never see an "NGD" of any of these.

I don't even know what I'm looking at with these, though. There seems to be a real focus on how close the knobs can be on some of them.
Very well said, Larry!

But who puts the pickup selector + two mini toggles (coil splits?) right in-between the four potentiometer knobs? What are they thinking??? It would be impossible to get in there without messing up the volume or tone. It's probably a cost cutting decision - less wire if you keep everything jammed in one spot.

I'm with you on this one. I wouldn't have made the connection - there's so many "not right" elements on these that I would never look twice at them.

Yeah. At that price, it's pretty much gotta be that. They kinda remind me of Nash guitars, minus the horrible relic job and outlandish price.
This is an excellent rectangle

He'll do a horrible relic job if you ask for one.

These don't look like Kauer's to me.

Pickguard and bodyshape is somewhat similar to the Arcturus, but it also reminds me of a Fender Toronado... ???

Hopefully it did not come across as me telling people that they should buy them. I was a bit shocked and thought I would post here so that you guys and Doug were aware of them. As many people have pointed out they are by no means accurate "copies" but the body and pickguard obviously are heavily influenced by his guitars.

Also, I have no idea what crosses the line for a company or people...obviously this is a real craptastic looking guitar but the body shape and that pickguard are obviously heavily influenced by the kauer acturus. If I made a guitar and someone came out with a really crappy guitar with hints of what I made I would want to know.

It did not come across that way to me. Your original post was clear, and helpful.
