European Guitar Builders

Post by Firecat » Fri Jun 06, 2014 4:58 am

There's a lot of talk about US based "boutique" guitar builders like Paul Rhoney, Kauer, Danocaster, Bilt, ... on this forum and I was wondering if there are some European based builders doing similar stuff :-)

I know Deep Seat Guitars from Sweden, Smitty, HAAR and RebelRelic from the Netherlands, Deimel from Germany, Custom77 from France and probably a couple of others I can't think of right now, but there must be others! So what are some cool European made guitars nowadays?

Loic Le Pape's builds have always been on my 'dream list.' I mean, just look at them!

Moon Guitars, local to me (about 3/4 of a mile or so). His acoustics are where it's at but he does make electric. He's a likeable, incredibly personable man too.

Short interview.

Played a jumbo acoustic of his ... it was a great sounding jumbo, better than a lot of J200s I've tried.

Don't forget Huber.

I think Juha Ruokangas and Nik Huber are probably the best of the best for euro electric builders, Pagelli is consistently the most creative and inspiration and Mikael Springer is the guy who is only a year older than me and looks like he's been doing it 50 years longer than me.

EVERYONE I've ever met has been an amazing person. Nik and Juha especially took me under their wing early on.

Panos is Enigma Guitars, a guitarist, sound engineer, guitar teacher and guitar luthier. His work has no limits, anything you have in mind and you can afford to pay he will do it. Neck through, set neck, bolt-on, custom inlays/neck shape/radius/headstock shape/body shape, assembling/modifications and pretty much anything you want. Total custom work for people who want their dream guitar and they can't find her on the shelf. His guitars are handmade, no CNC's so there are not cheap. His setups are the best, I can't afford his guitars but he has assembled my partscasters and he has made all my guitars play like butter. He's also a very nice & honest guy, that's why I've never used another tech since I met him.

UK has lots of small builders but one of the best respected and reasonably priced are Gordon Smith guitars http://www.gordonsmithguitars.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

There's also The Creamery but they are more pickupshttp://www.creamery-pickups.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I used to have a really nice Gordon Smith GS1 from the 80s cracking guitar.I would also like to try a creamery guitar if they are anywhere near as good as their pickups which I'm sure they are.

Potentially reviving this thread to see if any noteworthy new European offset builders have popped up since 2014. I'm considering Haar for a custom build, but would like to see more options out there.

There's a great luthier building under a brand Wolf Guitars here in Czech Republic. I know the guy and his skill and attention to detail is insane. He just launched his first offset model, The Velvet. I did a quick demo of the first production piece here

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQiEnCDB3BM

He doesn't have a website yet, but I'll post more photos and info if interested :)

if I remember correctly, the specs are following:
Chambered pine body with walnut top and binding
Maple neck with rosewood fretboard
Dussenberg trem and bridge
3x Tuma Pickups p90 Alnico 5 (custom hand wound pickups made here in CZ)
Check out my band, The Atavists ! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eG-HZtrljMg
