Re: NGD: Another squier VM Jaguar
Congrats on your Jaguar!
If you want a smoother tremolo, try to find a Fender AVRI spring and swap it with the stock string.
Fender offers just the tremolo spring as a replacement. Fender Jaguar/Jazzmaster Tremolo Arm Tension Spring 0019307000
Another option would be to replace te whole tremolo for a AVRI Fender one, but this will set you at least € 100,- back...
And the trem arm and tip have to be purchased seperatly.... So in total it would be more arround € 120,-
I have a CV Squier Jaguar I have to say it's quiet a good guitar for the price.
I have mine set up with 0.11-0.50 and the stock trem is smooth, but with a set of 0.12, you might need a bit more spring tension.
The trem springs on the Squier trems apear to be somewhat less tensioned then the AVRI Fender units.

Thanks for the tips! That was a complaint from 2014 (gosh time rushes), but I managed to get used to it, I adjusted the spring screw and I bent the trem arm to my liking, going strong till today! I actually went back to round wound strings, d’addario 12-60, no buzzing, no string slipping, no tuning issues, a real beast!
Listen to the links if you’d like to hear how it sounds (whit flatwounds still).

Good stuff...bravi!Arc wrote: ↑Sun May 02, 2021 6:58 amHi everybody, I’m the OP, hope to be forgiven for this massive necrobump! Long time no see, I almost forgot I’m an offset guy, spent the last couple of years playing Gibson style guitars, but last month I picked my squier jag for fun and man! That thing still rocks! Probably the best purchase I did for the money!
Here are a couple of links from my two bands, I used the jag thru an hiwatt clone and a couple of dirt boxes. If you’d like to support by listening it would be great, given the sad time we’re living.

Two very different projects, nogaar is alt-rock, electric kuru is fully improvised psych rock. Both are basement recordings, don’t be too hard on them

Thanks! I actually dig the electric kuru thing more, but we split due to jobs/family stuff and now there’s two of us left. That’s why we tried some alt rock, but we’re thinking about going instrumental again!

WHAT if I wanted to swap the pot in the lead circuit, are they both 1M audio?
I wouldn’t change the values because I like the sound overall, but I long for a more solid feel.

Re: NGD: Another squier VM Jaguar
I have had My VM Jag and VM Jazzmaster since Squier first released them ten years ago or so. Put 11’s on both, neither needed a shim. Both are still stock other than putting Graphtech nuts on them. Changed pickups on both just to get the truer vintage sound. Fender ‘62’s on the Jazzmaster and Fender ‘65’s on the Jag.
After the initial setups I have done zero adjustments and had zero issues with them after all these years. They also are two of my best guitars for staying in tune even with trem use (but I don’t do dive bombs). A Graphtech XL nut really helps with guitars with trems.

Re: NGD: Another squier VM Jaguar
On mine I shimmed the neck even if I strung it with insanely heavy strings. I like the archtop-like architecture and the fact that the strings behind the bridge don’t resonate too much. This way, maybe purely out of luck, they are tuned as fourths and I can exploit this feature when playing, emphasizing certain notes.Caddy65 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 17, 2021 1:24 pmI have had My VM Jag and VM Jazzmaster since Squier first released them ten years ago or so. I’m still on the original nut but I plan on changing it when I refret (somewhere in the future), thus thanks for the tip on the graphtech!

Cheers to you, enjoy your new Jag!Arc wrote: ↑Fri May 09, 2014 11:28 amI decided I want a Jag for my gigs with a psychedelic/tribal project, tons of reverb and delay, cristal clean suond, vibrato and all. I went toward a squier because here you always say great thing about it, and also because I've had to spend my guitar-money for a new(second hand) car, so a squier is everything I can afford. I don't tell you how difficult it was to find it here in Italy, there was just one shop that had the 3ts at a quite steep price, but that is. I went there, tried it, and decided it was a lemon: fret buzz all over the fretboard, plus the G and high e almost completly mute after the 7th fret. And I don't like 3ts ;-) so after some research I found this very small shop that have a lot of offsets, and she is there, my olympic white Jag. The setup was perfect and the guy was really nice, he swaped the 9-42 for a set of chrome 12-52 for free!
I have since 4 days and I'm really astonished by the quality of this instrument, I even like the pickups!
The only con for me is the vibrato system, not very smooth indeed..
I hope I can take some pictures and samples soon!
Have a good weekend!
I had to check the used market to find a VM jazzmaster last year in Italy.
Out of curiosity, where's this shop with lot of offsets?
If it's close to me it might be worth a visit
if you're into offsets, take a look here!

Hey Hi Italian fellow! The message you quoted is from 7 years ago, I don’t know if the shop is still in business or has offsets at the moment. At that time they had a couple of model for every price range (squier/mex/usa). Anyway it is called cult and pulp music store, just outside cittadella (PD).
Have a nice day!
