Crafted in Japan JM. Whats a fair price??......

Post by PorkyPrimeCut » Wed Nov 14, 2007 8:01 am

I've a friend up in Leeds (the guy with the 66 Jag who had grief with Vintage And Rare).

He's looking at selling his Jazzmaster. He guessed £400.

What would you say was a fair price?

His description

Crafted In Japan, Olympic White, Serial Number Q003502, bought new in 2004.
According to Fender Q+6 digits means it was made 1993-1994, more likely made 2002-04??
Mint apart from one tiny nick above the bridge. No hardcase, just a gig-bag.

More pictures later, if & when he gets any interest.

He wants me to ask you guys before he goes through ebay. I think he's had problems with the bay in the past.

I posted here as its not got a clear price yet. Once I know I'll ask him for the go ahead & post it in the "For Sale Or Trade" section.

£350 would ensure a quick sale...£400 is about right for a CIJ Jazzmaster (IMO)

Well, they go for about 500 GBP new(Thomann.de), so maybe 400? If i had the cash i would definitely go for it, put in some Novaks and a mint guard, but alas...  :(

According to Fender Q+6 digits means it was made 1993-1994, more likely made 2002-04??
MIJ Q series is 94:ish. CIJ Q series are much later (02-04). Fender Japan recycled the serienumbers when shifting the "Made" to "Crafted".
Someone knows where I can find the nearest woodchipper to throw my pieces of junk into?

So are MIJ's more desirable/expensive than recent CIJ? My insurance on my MIJ '94 is pretty low, about the 400 pounds you're mentioning.

I don't think so. There's some threads here about MIJ vs CIJ and some opinions is that the MIJs are better and some think the opposite. There's no "collectable" about the Japanese JM's and Jags whatsoever (perhaps maybe the very earliest in the 80's but I don't know). I have a 93 MIJ JM that sucked with the stock gear(upgraded and refinned) and I have a CIJ Jag that sucks about equally with the stock gear.....

400 GBP is what I paid for my CIJ Ocean Turquoise JM Q serie, I was aiming for a lower price (350GBP max) for a JM on eBay but since OTM is quite a rare finish, I couldn't let it go.  :)

The seller was selling it 450GBP BIN but you could made an "offer" to him. He relisted it 3 times at 450GBP before accepting my 400GBP offer.
