My new Toy!! (CIJ Bass VI)
This calls for a small celebration: After waiting for nearly two months (that's how long shipping across the Atlantic can take) I finally got my CIJ Bass VI!! My first impression is that it's very well built, smooth neck, light weight (less heavy than my CS Bass VI anyway), very comfortable to play and simply beautiful looking. Oh, and very SMELLY too. When I opened the case there was this horrible smell that reminded me of cat pee. Luckily I could polish it of the guitar itself, but the case is beyond rescue. God knows what leaked into it... :-\
I remember DB compared the CIJ pickups to the CS ones in another thread, the CSs being brighter, yet a bit more mellow. I fully agree with that. The CS sounds a better, perhaps livelier. But I wanted to change the pickups anyway, to get a really different tone from the CS one. Haven't decided yet exactely what pups will do the job, so maybe I'll start a thread in the mod section about that. I might change the trem too.
Before it arrived I was determined to have it refinished, but now I'm not so sure anymore. The sunburst looks surprisingly good. And look at the pickguard! I've seen worse, for a CIJ. Still I think these pictures aren't doing it justice. The sunburst look a bit more radiant in real life and the pickup covers are less white than they appear. I'll take better pictures as soon as the weather clears up. Promise!

Good score! You're right about the guard, it does look good for CIJ. Keep us informed on what you do with the pickups as I'm sure many of us here would be interested.

Nice one!
I've encountered a few cases like that .. I think sometimes with the cheap cases the glue holding the plush to the case goes off or gets attacked by bacteria or mould or something .. awful smell, but it doesn't necessarily mean there were cats involved.woster wrote: When I opened the case there was this horrible smell that reminded me of cat pee. I've had cases like that too. Awful. Smelled up my entire practice space. Ugh.mezcalhead wrote: Nice one!

Man, I played one of those brand new in a shop in about 1996 and had absolutely no idea what it was. All I knew was that it was quite possibly one of the coolest things on earth. Enjoy!

That looks great...I'm very jealous. I almost got a CIJ Bass VI but decided to stick out the time and $$$ for a CS. The wait sucks.
What are you planning to do with it? Are you going to play the bass role or the guitar role (or a bit of both) with it?

Re: My new Toy!! (CIJ Bass VI)
So far I play both. My band doesn't have a bass player (yet), so occasionally I take that role. The middle pickup of the CIJ Bass VI works surprisingly well for bass! But I prefer doing guitar bits on a VI. A bit like Placebo I guess :-\sonik wrote: What are you planning to do with it?
