My first impression is that it's very well built, smooth neck, light weight (less heavy than my CS Bass VI anyway), very comfortable to play and simply beautiful looking. Oh, and very SMELLY too. When I opened the case there was this horrible smell that reminded me of cat pee. 
Luckily I could polish it of the guitar itself, but the case is beyond rescue. God knows what leaked into it... :-\I remember DB compared the CIJ pickups to the CS ones in another thread, the CSs being brighter, yet a bit more mellow. I fully agree with that. The CS sounds a better, perhaps livelier. But I wanted to change the pickups anyway, to get a really different tone from the CS one. Haven't decided yet exactely what pups will do the job, so maybe I'll start a thread in the mod section about that. I might change the trem too.
Before it arrived I was determined to have it refinished, but now I'm not so sure anymore. The sunburst looks surprisingly good. And look at the pickguard! I've seen worse, for a CIJ. Still I think these pictures aren't doing it justice. The sunburst look a bit more radiant in real life and the pickup covers are less white than they appear. I'll take better pictures as soon as the weather clears up. Promise!
