Great Jazzmaster tone (video link)
Most of you probably already know this video from Roy Lamham in the 1950's, but for me this was new, and I was amazed at the sound of this guitar.
It's probably a very early Jazzmaster with a black anodized guard...

sound quality is abysmal so it sounds more like an organ or electric piano to me.Soiouz wrote: Most of you probably already know this video from Roy Lamham in the 1950's, but for me this was new, and I was amazed at the sound of this guitar.

He's an extraordinary player though, never heard of him before , are there any better recordings floating around on the web somewhere?

Maybe because I listen to a lot of stuff from the 1950's and later that sound this way, I didn't think it was that bad, especially considering the age of the footage...Sauerkraut wrote:

But he is an extraordinary player indeed!

maybe he really got his guitar to sound like that (fingers + tone on 1?) but I think most of the higher frequencies of the recording are gone.Soiouz wrote:Maybe because I listen to a lot of stuff from the 1950's and later that sound this way, I didn't think it was that bad, especially considering the age of the footage...Sauerkraut wrote:

Ah, such a nice sound and it seems to cut through pretty well.

Re: Great Jazzmaster tone (video link)
that was such a great video, thank you for the link
I love seeing things like that...in a way, I find this video so refreshing...it shows me that I have so much more to learn when it comes to playing the guitar

Very cool video!
Roy was one of my better students... just a joy to teach. Him and that Clapton kid, both.
Such nice boys and quick learners!

It's definitely there. Just hard to see with the high contrast TV lighting.IPLAYLOUD wrote: Is it me, or does Roy's Jazzmaster NOT have the second tone circuit??
