So THAT'S what guys that play Jazzmasters are like!!!

Post by zhivago » Thu Aug 23, 2007 9:42 am

I couldn't help but laugh out loud! :D
also the comment about what people are playing. I gather a number of brit yout bands are now playing Tele's, and players in some other obscure sub-category of rock (emo-shoegazing-depresso-starbucks barista tunes?) are playing Jazzmasters. Dealers have told me the calls they get from youts on these guitars, vintage variety, have gone up. "It goes in cycles" was one dealers comment.

about 2 years ago I needed some work done on one of my offsets. a friend said he knew an older tech that was great and I should bring mine along since he was taking a bandmate's Jaguar to him.

we get there and pull out both guitars...the guy looks at my friend and asks "do you not hang around anyone that doesn't play these things?"

no sir, no sir we don't!  :P

I love it when people coment on some thing they know nothing about  :-\ what do most guitarists know about offsets? "Kurdt Kobain played one..."  :k

It's not about the gear! It's about you, your hands, your imagination, your feelings.

I wouldn't lump Jimmy Eat World with Fall Out Boy. They're a decent band that was rocking before most of the "trendy" bands of today were even out of junior high school. Listen to their second and third albums, Static Prevails and Clarity (especially Clarity), and you'll hear a really good band. Even better better live.

I'm not sure I can give too much weight to a comment from someone who describes young people as "youts" ..  ???

.. but the "emo-shoegazing-depresso-starbucks barista tunes" quote is classic .. that should be next in line as a motto if we ever get bored with "continuously curving" .. maybe an option on a T-shirt range.

There is that element there, but there are some guys worth reading as well .. some excellent techs, some good luthiers like Koll .. and some real heavy hitters musically too, LA fusion guys, some good jazzers like Zucker .. David Torn posts there also. With 10K+ members you're bound to get some dead wood, but there is some great stuff in there too among the "OMG I got a new Eternity" posts.
