trying to search posts for replacement Mustang pickups

Post by bluekeys » Thu Feb 15, 2024 10:03 pm

I'm trying to search posts for replacement Mustang pickups recommendations but search results says this.

"The following words in your search query were ignored because they are too common words: mustang pickups"

Kind of makes this resource less than useful.

Yeah, it's a known flaw that's impossible to work around on the site. However, punching this into Google is a much better workaround...

Silly Rabbit, don't you know scooped mids are for kids?

Q Pickups are great, and reasonably priced. I'd quite like to try a set of the Sunday Handwound Duo Cats if I get a Mustang again.

The hot duosonics might be good. Want a change from the Duncan Designed in a VM Mustang.

I think I got some from Pickup Wizard. Quite like them.

Question: Are you replacing something that's not doing it for ya or are you starting with a blank slate?

I have a way backburner plan to install two Tele bridge pickups in mine. Or, to be more correct, two G&L ASAT alnico bridge pickups.

I have those pickups in my mustangs :
  • Q CLASSIC MUSTANG Guitar Pickup SET A5 Vintage
    The Creamery CLASSIC '69
    Fender Fat 50s Strat
DiMarzio Fast Track 1 + Cruiser Neck
They QPickups and Creamery both sound excellent - vintage singlecoil sound, can't tell a lot of difference between those two tbh
The Fender Fat 50s are a bit stronger but still very stratty
The DiMarzio Rail Pickups are good but have more mids overall and not really singlecoil jangle and attack, but noisefree and good with distortion

Will try Wilde MicroCoil Alnico or Noisefree Strat pickups in my current build

You can go for any Strat pickups if they are non-staggered btw or if you don't mind you can go for strat pickup covers as well if you don't mind the non-vintage correct look (like me)

I had Creamery 69s in my Mustang when I got it. I'm no Mustang expert as it's the only one I've had but it sounded ace.

I swapped them for hotrails as I needed humbucker output but I'd go Creamery again if I ever swap back.

I’ve hears good things about Klein pickups. I can’t speak for the mustang pickup, but their Precision bass pickup sounds great
