My overwhelming impression the first time I saw a new Meteora in a shop was "that thing's tiny". It's very slender across the middle, in a way that's not obvious from a picture. I didn't like its look anywhere near as much as I thought I would.

The matching headstock looks so good on the Meteora. Since they day they were announced I’ve been dreaming of the Cosmic Jade version with a matching headstock..
Same, with d&b fretboard, roasted maple neck, ebony fingerboard, and blackguard :? Preferably hardtail but I can live with the trem.

I really like this version of the Meteora very much! I wonder if this will be a world wide release?

But as excited I was for that blacked out (player series) FSR strat they did last year (that looked almost as beautiful as this) it just felt so cheap in hand. I was ready to buy one when I walked into the shop……. And yes it was a store floor model so the setup was probably trash and strung with 9s. But it felt like a toy, if you were blindfolded you’d think it was a squier affinity.
It had ebony and matching head as well, the ebony even felt cheap. Looked great, just did not feel or play great.
I recently tried a Player Plus Meteora in sunburst at a local guitar shop and came away feeling surprised by how well the neck was done... roasted maple satin finish with heavily rolled fretboard edges, no sharp fret ends, and with the fret ends noticeably recessed from the fretboard edge. Certainly the best MIM neck I've experienced, which will keep the Player Plus series on my radar. The shop had also done a very good set up on it. Even though the guitar's weight was probably around 8 lbs, it still felt compact and didn't feel that heavy if that makes any sense. But I wasn't looking for another sunburst guitar.

So I started GAS'ing for one of these black on black ones, and one came in stock at a nearby Guitar Center. I walked in semi-prepared to buy it. It took me 2 seconds to decide against it. The frets and neck were just ok, not as good as my other Meteora experience, and the GC setup was non-existent. As sugarandopium described, it just felt cheap... the hardware, the chrome, the overall fit and finish. I can't really comment on the pickups as the store noise was too loud to really draw any conclusions. I still have a freshly sour taste in my mouth, but this may have extinguished my GAS for a Meteora build.

There was a JMJM on the same wall that felt 10 times better for half the price. I would love to see if Squier could do a better version of the Meteora.
