OSG March Madness 2: Quarter Finals
We're now getting to the business end of the tournament. Each guitar to reach this stage has knocked out at least one worthy competitor. So far we've seen big wins, tight battles, and early favourites fall. 4 semi-final places are up for grabs in and it's up to you (or in the event of a tie, me) to decide who gets them. We have an all-shortcale match up, a battle of the non-Fenders, a Jag v JM tie and Fender v mystery brand pairing; something for everyone here!
QF1:
anim's red Mustang:
v smjenkins' blue Jaguar:
***
QF2:
tribi9's blue Guyatone:
v windmill's white Yamaha:
***
QF3:
GreenKnee's white Jaguar:
v gishuk's purple Jazzmaster:
***
QF4:
caples' blue Mustang:
v Zork's sunburst hollowbody:
As usual, you can vote in all four ties and the poll will run for three days.

I gotta say, the more I see that Guyatone, the more it grows on me. It is literally the perfect color metallic blue.

Yeah, my Mustang is stuffed
How about this? If you vote for my Mustang, your guitar will actually stand a chance of winning Here’s hoping that’ll limit the defeat to 30-6
There’s got to be a rule somewhere that, from the quarter finals on, the loser of each match wins the winner’s guitar.

Aww thank you smjenkins^
That mistery guitar looks like some sort of Hofner / Hopf collaboration. Cool instrument.

It's made in GDR in the early sixties, that's about all I know. There are several similar guitars under the brand of Marma, but the models weren't very consistent back then. They all come from an area in between bavaria, saxonia and czech republic called the "Musikwinkel" (translates roughly to "music corner") with a rich history of luthierie and building of other plucked instruments. In the early years of the GDR the instruments were mostly handbuilt by artisanal masters but later quality declined due to material shortages and general problems of socialist economy.
Hofner and Hopf guitars, also Klira or Framus are roughly located in the same area, but on the western side of the iron curtain. They share the same roots, though. Adolph Rickenbacher and Roger Rossmeisl come from the same area and tradition. It's pretty interesting.

Re: OSG March Madness 2: Quarter Finals
Quarter finals are complete! This time we say commiserations to:
anim's red Mustang: it may have got the lowest tally of the round, but it was my personal favourite of the whole tournament if that's any consolation.
windmill's white Yamaha: a very cool guitar pitted against the only thing similar to it in the contest. I think this quarter final pairing would have gone very far in a tag team contest, but sadly one of them had to depart.
GreenKnee's white Jaguar. Can we just take a minute to appreciate how incredible that strap is?
Zork's sunburst East German mystery hollowbody: Only three votes in it, making this the closest tie of the round. Perhaps the most interesting story of the contest so far, and I've enjoyed reading about it.
For the remaining four, it's onto the semi finals! If I'm speedy we might at least start the final before we run out of March this year...

Gishuk's burgundy mist Jazzmaster is absolutely stunning and I'm not surprised it got more votes than my Jag. I think this is the farthest I've got in one of these so more than happy
Thanks for putting this together again Stephen, and the charity incentive was great. I hope that continues on to future MADNESS events.
I'm going to brush up on my photography skills before next time.

A big + 1 to that. Thank you Stephen_42. I survived too. Against another favourite of mine.
