Mustang Player 90
While I was checking out guitars for one of my kids, I stumbled on these MIM Mustangs with P-90s. Just online, haven't played or even held one.
Anybody here have experience with one? I sold a Yamaha SGV with P-90s and kinda miss the pickups.

I’ve only played one for a few minutes in a guitar shop. It was a nice guitar. Pickups sounded good. It played well.
Not much else I can say. I’m sure somebody else will chime in eventually.

That's how mine started, but only the body is original by now.
But otherwise, nice and fun guitar, and you don't need to be a kid to enjoy it.

Funny! I was going to say that Gordon had one but modded it...
One thing that I heard about the Mustang 90 was that it was noisy and the middle position wasn't hum-cancelling? Could be a unique case. I never played one, but I was interested and looking at trying the silver one before it got sold.

Nice. Where’d you get that pick guard?
Well I’d be buying it for the P-90s but then… who knows what direction it might take. My daughter got the guitar she wanted, this’d be for me.

I’ve played a few in shops. They’re neat. I don’t remember the pickups being great, but nothing to complain about build quality-wise

Re: Mustang Player 90
I've the standard Mustang pickups version in Olympic White from back when it was called the Offset series. It's alright, but I actually wanted the P90 version which is, imo, superb.
But they're all routed for P90's or singles and I fell in love with the aesthetics of the Offset OW and Olive (and they're also MN, which I prefer to Pau Ferro). When an OM popped up at a nice price secondhand I grabbed it and a P90 loaded plate. Straight swap - easiest mod ever.
Neck-wise, they're okay. Not as filling in-hand as the Japanese Mustangs, imo. 9.5 radius and slim whereas I prefer a chunky 7.25. I'm probably not the norm on that preference, though. The P90's are their real selling point for me. Noisy AF, if you're into that. Excellent growl and tone that punches above their place in the market.

Well I’m liking the sound of that, except I really do prefer a chunkier neck. What the hell I’ll likely pick one up anyway.ainm wrote: ↑Sat Jan 28, 2023 12:51 pmI've the standard Mustang pickups version in Olympic White from back when it was called the Offset series. I have one and really enjoy it. Just swapped the pickups because I found them a bit muddy, but it's super comfy to play and feels well built. I'm a big fan of the neck profile especially, maybe just on the slimmer side of a C but has a great profile and still has some substance to it.

One of my old bandmates had one, I'd borrow it on occasion. It was a great little guitar.

Re: Mustang Player 90
I tried one in a shop, it sounded great playing ball-out rock n roll on the bridge pickup. Neck was too modern a shape for me though, too thin.
Silly Rabbit, don't you know scooped mids are for kids?

I shall find out soon enough, I just bought one. I figure I’ll like it or hopefully bend it to my will over time.
