Squier J Mascis Jazzmaster resuming production
Someone on an offset guitar Facebook group posted a link to an Australian guitar shop showing that the JMJM is up for preorder and is expected to ship mid June of this year!
https://foundsound.com.au/products/1145 ... xELkiwdM_Q
The price on the site is in Australian dollars btw
Perhaps they paused production for the 40th anniversary models? Either way glad to see it back!

I have been looking for one of these for a long time. Around here they are sold for crazy prices, but I finally manager to find one with rosewood fretboard in pristine condition and HS case at a correct price.
I am happy they are going to be produced again, especially for those who are in the situation I was in.

Good news? I wonder will folk be saying that "V1" of the Mascic JM was the best etc and this one will be junk.

Everyone knows that already happened when the fretboards changed to Indian Laurel in 2018 and the JMJM lost all of its mojo and toanezbarrycreed wrote: ↑Wed Jan 04, 2023 7:02 amGood news? I wonder will folk be saying that "V1" of the Mascic JM was the best etc and this one will be junk.

Isn’t this V3 now?
At least it means it’s ok for people to carve up the bodies & necks into wonderfully beautiful and unique shapes

I have nothing to offer anybody, except my own confusion?

I don't know why we've never seen FSR runs of JMJMs in cool colours.
J himself has been known to rock purple and sparkle JMs. If they did the Squier JMJM in a purple sparkle like the MIJ one, I doubt I could resist buying one.
With how popular the model is, it's surprising they never offered anything other than white.

I also bought a replacement bridge going by suggested mods, but personally found nothing wrong with the stock tunematic bridge.
So if I buy a new one, it'll be left alone!

I'm not a huge fan of white guitars and would LOVE an FSR JMJM. Hell, even black with a white pickguard would be fine with me!Embenny wrote: ↑Wed Jan 04, 2023 8:25 amI don't know why we've never seen FSR runs of JMJMs in cool colours.

They did the Deluxe Jazzmaster a few years back, which was, AFAIK, a JMJM in CAR - if you like the Iron Man look...?tdksa90 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 04, 2023 9:00 amI'm not a huge fan of white guitars and would LOVE an FSR JMJM. They also did a hardtail /TOM bridge version of the Deluxe Jazzmaster which didn't quite look right. I have to say the CAR colour was far nicer than the white JMJM. Will be interesting to see what colour the new one will be.

On a side note, are there any aftermarket necks with the same specs as the Mascis Squier neck?

If you search eBay for Jazzmaster necks, you'll generally always find several necks from China that have serial numbers starting with CGS and no neck pocket holes drilled. I don't know exactly what's going on with these (factory duds?), but they are the same necks as the Squier Deluxe, and therefore identical to the rosewood Mascis but without the signature on the back of the headstock. I've bought one in the past, and the only thing I noticed is that the fret ends were a bit more tapered at each end (i.e. easier for the string to slide off if playing sloppy). Don't blame me if you get an actual dud thoughbarrycreed wrote: ↑Thu Jan 05, 2023 1:11 amOn a side note, are there any aftermarket necks with the same specs as the Mascis Squier neck?

Re: Squier J Mascis Jazzmaster resuming production
This is very welcome news. Not because I have any particular desire for a JMJM, but because it seemed that Squier had stopped doing artist models completely. If they've u-turned on that, maybe the odds of more cool stuff (Jarman Musuar reissue?) are improving.
I remember being very tempted by the hardtail one. I love the Iron Man look and I very rarely use vibrato, but I didn't have as much disposable income at the time.barrycreed wrote: ↑Wed Jan 04, 2023 10:26 amThey also did a hardtail /TOM bridge version of the Deluxe Jazzmaster which didn't quite look right.

Yes, they're factory seconds. I got one of those Squier Deluxe JM neck last year which has no discernible defect, but I bought a Fender Modern Player Mustang neck from the same seller with a heel slightly too wide for a standard neck pocket and an imperfection in the finish on the back that is invisible but perceptible to the touch.alexpigment wrote: ↑Thu Jan 05, 2023 5:15 amIf you search eBay for Jazzmaster necks, you'll generally always find several necks from China that have serial numbers starting with CGS and no neck pocket holes drilled. Re those seconds necks - I looked on EBay and can’t see any that I’d expect would be them except three located in the United States.
Maybe they’re all gone now 🫤
