There's going to be an American Vintage 2 series apparently.

In 2009, MF ran a call-in only sale of 3TSB Jazzmasters for $1k. The Elvis Costello was $1200. I bought the 3TSB and flipped it for a couple hundred bucks profit.redchapterjubilee wrote: ↑Sat Oct 01, 2022 5:00 amThe buy new price for the AVRI JM in 2008 was $1600. By 2010 the boring black, white, 3TSB was $1400-$1500 (it fluctuated) and they were closed out in 2012 for $1250-$1350 depending on color (my white 2012 JM was $1225 from Musicians Friend).

Re: There's going to be an American Vintage 2 series apparently.
I want to be clear; I never meant that the build quality of the AO line was subpar, I merely criticised the actual specs vs the level of standard from the previous series. I'd just as happily own one of the AO60s Teles in LPB (actually almost bought one two months ago) and have also owned a complete AO60s JM body in OTM that was great, just peeved at the simplified specs of the AO/AVII line compared to the original AV series. Never owned an AVRI but if my Elvis Costello was anything to go on, I've still got a ragin' obsession for the AV '12-'17.johnnysomersett wrote: ↑Thu Sep 29, 2022 11:28 amI'm sure it'll be of high quality (maybe not AV65 level, I dunno. But I briefly had an AO60s Tele and that thing was flawless...like, almost custom shop level quality - but a Tele is pretty simple). Is it 2.5k exciting? I dunno. Certainly not with the colours they're offering. I might find it hard to resist if, a year or two down the line, they start talking about other more interesting colours.
But, my opinion is skewed as I already have a '66 reissue in a cool colour. Also with an incorrect headstock size and I fucking love it to death.

This goes for you as well, Powdered Toast Man: your AO60s is valid. You are valid.
Also Mr. Somersett, your JM-66B MIJ reissue is aces, and I'd never rag on it at £800 new, but for 2599€ I would expect Fender to add a CAD-file to their CNC machine to use the CBS headstock... Imo it's no coincidence they went with 1966 instead of 1967 when the pre-CBS headstock was completely phased out, clearly hoping no OSG freak like myself would notice. Still not found a small headstock B&B neck anywhere, neither online nor in any Fender literature I own.
Remember this one?
Well I strongly considered getting one, regardless of minor incorrect details. Why didn't I go on an online rant? Because it didn't cost 2599€ lol.
I am pretty sure you could totally offer your guitar up for partial trade+cash your way tbh.johnnysomersett wrote: ↑Thu Sep 29, 2022 12:29 pmHell, I'd trade my '64 Jag for a later one with blocks in a heartbeat regardless of the loss in value!

Everytime I've kept my mouth shut whenever someone's gotten a Musikraft neck except they didn't ask them to not add the incorrect last inlay...
Finally someone here asking the real questions! Re: There's going to be an American Vintage 2 series apparently.
Reading between the lines on the marketing copy and specs that have been leaked for the AVII series my thought is that these are a blend of AO and AV specs. I think the finishes will be the identical nitro they're using right now on the AO's. Why would I say that? Because in the descriptions I'm seeing the same language used as the AO's and not "flash coat lacquer" which was a very specific finishing process developed for the AV line. Same goes for the frets - sure they're returning to the 7.25" radius, but they are keeping the "vintage tall" fretwire.algeriet wrote: ↑Mon Oct 03, 2022 5:33 amI want to be clear; I never meant that the build quality of the AO line was subpar, I merely criticised the actual specs vs the level of standard from the previous series. And they're very careful note to use the terms "reissue" or "reproduction".
This says to me: "These are made to be vintage feel/style/tone, but with some modern manufacturing updates." This is a big differentiator to the 12-17 AV series which were touted to be as near perfect reproductions of the originals as possible. The instruments in the American Vintage II series are direct descendants of the original Fenders: designed for players with a fine appreciation for vintage Fender tone and feel and built with unmatched quality, down to the last screw. These are Fender electrics in their purest form: Fender American Vintage II, the stuff of legends.
I personally haven't seen anything in this new line that's moved the needle for me. Add in yet another price hike and I'm probably going to pass.

Exactly what I’ve been saying. Added blocks on the AO60s neck, F plate and boom, AVII66. I remember back in 2017 when NAMM ’18 was around the corner and naive me was hoping for AV67s… Ah innocent youth…

I did some google image searches on 1966 Jazzmasters and you're right about the headstock shape. I mean, maybe there were a handful of carry overs from 65 that had the old shape but overwhelmingly they're CBS large paddle headstocks.algeriet wrote: ↑Mon Oct 03, 2022 9:05 amSee?! Re: There's going to be an American Vintage 2 series apparently.
So I've played a '65 with the big headstock as well as seen several online, but also seen '66ers with the small headstock and with D&B so I think it's like you say, carry overs during this transition period. Can't fathom that they'd have done a small headstock with B&B in '66, but I am ready to be proven wrong!Powdered Toast Man wrote: ↑Mon Oct 03, 2022 11:29 amI did some google image searches on 1966 Jazzmasters and you're right about the headstock shape. Mate, I traded a Harmony Silhouette reissue (remake?) for a '63 refin JM straight, buyer was aware of the difference in value. Never assume anything! Also, I am confident someone would take you up for it as it'd be a pretty sweet deal for someone in the exact same shoes only the other way around.johnnysomersett wrote: ↑Mon Oct 03, 2022 9:31 pmI wouldn't even know where to attempt such a thing to be honest, I'm only a member of this forum and I doubt anyone here would be willing.

Well, they did the Aerodyne Special 'release' today (about an hour ago UK time) so I'm not sure they'll do more than one a day. Happy to be proved wrong though.
