From what I read CV’s aren’t much of an improvement over VM’s re; QC.. I’d go play one before I’d waste any time buying one, two or three online & have to return them all because they were all complete POS due to extremely poor QC.. And they all needed reconstruction, lots of new Parts & possibly a new Neck.. Been there done that…
I know I won’t gain any popularity for this comment. But, Other than the JMJM the other JM Squiers would be a strong pass for me….
If you could find a good Used Fender Lacquer 60’s that would be an excellent choice for a back up to any Jazzmaster.. They are great Guitars! Next best thing to an AV65.. Even come with the Hard Case…
Good luck..

no two squiers play the same, i have played PILES of them and the only one's i have liked right off the rack were the tele thinlines and one of the new JM's. JMJM's have all felt good until the recent release which is garbage now too.Larsongs wrote: ↑Thu Sep 15, 2022 9:28 amFrom what I read CV’s aren’t much of an improvement over VM’s re; QC.. I’m the opposite. I like shorter scale for rhythm playing/singing and 25.5” for lead stuff.johnnysomersett wrote: ↑Thu Sep 15, 2022 8:05 amYeah, I've recently come to the realisation that I play mush better on a 25.5" and can navigate the fretboard by feel a lot more accurately - which is handy when I'm singing and moving around at the same time - so the Jag has been benched for the band outside of recording.marqueemoon wrote: ↑Thu Sep 15, 2022 8:00 amI would say in a 3 piece you could get away with just about anything as a backup. Sticking with the same scale length is probably a good idea though.

Put a JMJM neck on a CV body, sell the leftover parts you don't need?

I have one of these necks on my Customesque Telemaster. The Pau Ferro version - which is actually beautiful grained. Neck is good and chunky. Great feeling. 7,25“.rhythmjones wrote: ↑Wed Sep 14, 2022 5:04 pmClassic lacquer is the best bargain in guitars ever. Especially if you get an earlier model with Rosewood.
Neck fairly chunky.
Got it for 200€ new from a german music store back in 2020 - when they sold both CP and CL Jag and JM necks as replacements. Maybe you get lucky and find one - get a body in a color you like and you have the perfect backup guitar for probably less than 800,-

I mean, at least back in those days it was easier...there was just one option at a time and the only variance was the colour. Much simpler.
Silly Rabbit, don't you know scooped mids are for kids?

I've decided I'm just gonna pop to my local Guitar shop and play a bunch. They've got maybe 10 or 12 in stock from various ranges from Squier to Vintera so I can just see what feels best for whatever the money and grab it.

Why not get a nice old-ish neck you can really bond with and pick up a loaded Classic Vibe body (or buy a CV and sell the neck). That way you could be open to e.g. a Greco Strat as well. So much great 70s Fujigen stuff out there.

Fixed for me. At one point I had two Silvertone 1303/ U2 reissues. One black and one silverburst. The black was over a half pound heavier. Despite similar setups they played and sounded noticeably different.
IMO a spare guitar shouldn’t be jarring to switch to or unplayably shitty, but trying to find something that is a close match is a fool’s errand. Or you spend a bunch of money upgrading it make it “match”.

true, I would still say go to the shop and play what they have there. I really felt like the squier offsets felt either super shitty or like toy quality, maybe 1 out of 10 is decent.johnnysomersett wrote: ↑Thu Sep 15, 2022 12:35 pmOUCH! bring two of your guitars and flip a coin when you get there, that's what I do (or snap a string and get to play both like our last gig with you lot)

That did give us the opportunity to do that seamless mid-song guitar unpack/swapover thing though like pro's (playing to 25 people, above a BBQ restuarant hahaha)garyptaszek wrote: ↑Sun Sep 18, 2022 2:36 ambring two of your guitars and flip a coin when you get there, that's what I do (or snap a string and get to play both like our last gig with you lot)

So this popped up on Reverb yesterday and I negotiated a deal on it. 2017 Classic Lacquer 60's MIM:
...that'll do the job and wont need anything except one of the Staytrem's I have in the parts drawer.

Did beach dog get included as part of a surf special?
I have nothing to offer anybody, except my own confusion?
