Best cheap backup Jazzmaster with a good size neck profile? *that's not a Mascis Squire*

I bought one of the necks when they were like $200 on Stratosphere. They are super tinted and it messed with me for a while, but now I'm used to it, and somehow it seems to make my oly white body less bright.

It kinda funny how many Offset Forum guys are so concerned about color coordinating their Guitars. I don’t see that so much on other forums... I like finding a Guitar that plays & sounds fantastic & is in perfect condition.. Thats my main concern..

It's not 'colour coordinating', it's just the tint they used on the necks on these is a weird colour is all. I'm not that bothered tbh

That's a bummer. if you don't mind a subtle relic job, the Road Worn '60s is the same as the Classic lacquer, so you might also keep an eye out for that one.
Only differences are subtle reliced sunburst nitro finish, tarnished hardware and very thin worn poly, instead of nitro, finish on the neck that's less orange tinted. The early runs have a rosewoord fretboard but later they changed to pau ferro, just like they did with the Classic lacquer. I got mine for 850 euro's which I consider a bargain for how good it is.

Aw shit that sucks man, I know your pain I wish Reverb could institute a rule for sellers where they have to go through with the sale after a certain amount of time has passed once the buyer has paid unless they can prove they sold the guitar somewhere else before you purchased it

I have to agree with a Used Squier J Mascis.. Of all the cheap Jazzmasters it’s the only one that doesn’t need reconstruction.. IMO, they don’t really need any Mods.. About the only thing you might want to do is pop in an inexpensive Mustang Bridge.. But, it’s really not necessary unless you thrash & play really hard.. Like all Squier Offsets it requires patience to do a lengthy Set up but it’s worth it.. And they look great!

I dunno about that... If I wanted P90s and a POS Tune-o-matic I'd buy a Gibson And the vibrato is in the wrong place.

I don't know why they're so popular. Well, I do to the general guitar playing world - they made it more generic feeling and sounding - but to JM nerds I'd expect it to be universally loathed. Ho hum.

I agree with Johnny. I really wanted to like my J Mascis JM. The neck IS really sweet. however, just about everything else about that guitar is wrong: the pickups are hot garbage, so I swapped them out several times; the bridge isn't right, so I tried several other options and even swapped out the tremolo tailpiece. Even with all the best parts I could throw on it, a shim in the neck, Fralin pickups, modded Mosrite bridge & an AVRI trem, it never felt quite right, which I attribute to the tailpiece being in the wrong place. This experience was repeated with a well-fettled Standard series that even had a Staytrem; the tremolo location just kills the dynamics, harmonics and feel you get from a well set up Jazzmaster.

I have both of these guitars at the moment and I can definitely say the neck on the 70’s CV FSR is chunkier than the JMJM. The JMJM seems to have a slightly wider neck but the 70’s FSR has more depth to it with a noticeable shoulder

I disagree, The USA Epiphone Casinos (P90's) like John, Paul & George used seemed to have worked pretty well for them.. And about 100 or more major Artists & 100's of thousands or more Musicians who use/used them.. And there ain't nothing wrong with the B7 Bigsby's on them...They work perfectly.. Which can't exactly be said about Fenders Trem's.. I have 3 Casino's including the new USA Casino, one with a Bigsby, one with Tromotone & they are arguably the most versatile Guitar on the Planet!!! Far more versatile than my AV65 Jazzmaster or my AV65 Jaguar... My JMJM is a back up Guitar.. I will say the Set up on it was F'n Grueling!!!! And it's ok for a back up....
