New Used Vintage Modified Bass VI Day!
My old Squier VI was my only guitar in my current band. I frankensteined together another VI from different parts to have a backup at gigs, but...
There are a few things I can't get quite right and on our first gig a string broke on the Squier in the first 30 seconds and I had to play the gig with the Frankenstein and it was just too different to simply work in the whole setup.
So? I sold a guitar, bought another Sunburst VM Bass VI and here it is:
Mods already done:
- Shimmed the neck with a credit card
- Put a 9.5" radius Mustang bridge on
- new fancy pickguard
- nice knobs
Mods awaiting:
- 5 way Strat switch with Herad control plate (waiting till in stock again).
- 500k audio taper volume and 250k linear taper tone pots (already in the mail).
- bone nut (wanted an axemasters but they don't ship bone nuts overseas anymore).
- Improving the trem by filing, rounding and polishing the pivot/knife edge (forgot to do so when I assembled the bass).
I'm really happy with the new one! Played it at the practice today and it will be nearly identical to the green one once the pots are installed. And it looks cool! Yay!

Cool! Ever more tempted by a bass vi type thing as a recording tool.
I do not miss changing strings on stage. But I must admit, it was easier than taking two guitars on tour with me.

I have nothing to offer anybody, except my own confusion?

Yes! I love it, too. But it's more of a very light metallic green. Maybe I'll refinish the sunburst one in OTM, that'll be a fabulous pair.
I think taking two guitars is absolutely worth it. There's so much that can possibly go wrong or break during a gig, even more so on a tour. It just relaxes me to have a backup with me. Because sh*t happens...sal paradise wrote: ↑Mon Jul 18, 2022 8:57 pmCool! Ever more tempted by a bass vi type thing as a recording tool.

Shit happens? No need to prepare for that stuff. Like, if by any chance something might happen to your guitar in Hamburg on the penultimate night of the tour, there’s no need to panic…Zork wrote: ↑Mon Jul 18, 2022 11:55 pmYes! I love it, too. Nice! I’m always a fan of redundancy!
You didn’t sell the Musima did you?

No, it's safely at home and gets played every day.

Most bestestes mod done:
Edge of the pivot and cylindrical nut for the spring tension rounded: This increases the range of the vibrato and smoothness of operation dramatically.
