Almost Ready to Cancel AmPro II Order !!!

Just got off the phone with GC and my order for a AmPro II Dark Night Jazzmaster has been delayed again (for the 5th time!). I ordered it in mid-December. In the meantime, I have been playing my Strat VG a lot and having a blast with it. It does everything I want and need, so why should I expend over $1700 for the new JM? Although 99% of the people that have one say it is an outstanding guitar, so I guess it might be worth the wait and $$'s.
Sad to say, if I had ordered from Sweetwater, I would have had one in early March, but because I have a GC within driving distance, I went with them instead. Oh well!
I told my wife this guitar better be a LOT better than my Strat...otherwise, I will send it back. Anyway, I probably won't cancel.....I just have to vent a little!!

Fender will be announcing something to replace the American Original line at Summer NAMM so it might be worth waiting to see what that is going to be anyway

My guess is that it’s gonna be expensive :-p

Well, from all the research I have done, I think the AMPro II fits what I like better. I don't need one that is totally original. But I will look into it more, anyway. Thanks for the suggestion.
GC said my order should ship end of this month, so we will see.

Rumour has it they’ll be called ‘American Classic’ and come in a few new (sparkle) finishes.

Oh really? Sounds exciting! It might be time for me to branch out from the short scale Jaguar and actually try a Jazzmaster.

I’ve been thru this a few times.. The Stores seldom know when something is coming if it’s back ordered. One Guitar was supposed to arrive in a couple weeks & took 8 months. Another in a month or so.. Took a year & a half… Another 4-5 months & came in within a week.
They’re just trying to appease you & keep their deal from cancelling…

Sucks waiting, but cancelling now right before a new model comes out will likely leave you with nothing. Keeping your order in at least gives you some negotiation with Guitar Center when the new model comes in

That’s a little more than I charge for a fully custom build with a glitter finish.

GC's not doing great. I ordered a G&G Jazzmaster case from them early in the pandemic that was listed in stock when I ordered it. It was pushed back a month, once a month for 8 months in a row until I cancelled the order and grabbed the same case from another vendor. 2 weeks later, a GC rep called me to let me know the case was in and asked if I still wanted to purchase it.

The last time I pre-ordered a guitar from GC, it took about twice the estimated time. So next time I pre-ordered a guitar through a different dealer, and it hasn't come yet, and now I see GC has just gotten it in stock.

That's what I am afraid of!! Something similar happened to me when I cancelled my order to go with Sweetwater. In fact, there is now a Reverb listing for one that a person got from Sweetwater back in March. In December, I had reserved then cancelled my order with Sweetwater to go with GC which I wrote about in my original post. Plus the price of the AMPro II had gone up almost $220 (inc tax) about 10 days after I ordered mine. I have found a few used listed now on Reverb, but not at enough savings so that I would want to buy one. Sorry to hear about your experience!
