Re: OSG World Cup
I bought this for $650 earlier this week because it needs work (pots need cleaning, a bit of setup work the A string has a nasty buzz... and one of the neck screws is stripped and sticking out a half inch so hopefully it can be taken out with a pair of pliers and the hole redrilled). Peavey T-60, Aluminati neck. Sounds awesome but I think the original wiring might have been tinkered with - rolling back the volume to go from humbucker to single coil just makes it quiet.

Entry 20(?):
My parts Jaguar. VM neck from an HH I got for £160, body from who knows where finished in who knows what around £140, staytrem, and a JB in the bridge. All badly self-assembled, but the wiring hasn’t failed yet! Maybe £450 all in?

Re: OSG World Cup
Ok, let's go with my newest and most useful cheap guitar, whose color also match those of my trusty Jazzmaster, that lost valiantly in the qualifying round of the previous tournament
My *inhales* Harley Benton R-457MN WH Fanfret !!!
This guitar retails for 178€ new, which is pretty absurd considering the quality of everything except the pickups. It's a boring metal-ish design, but it looks pretty dashing in white with the maple fretboard.
Since I got it used for 120€, I added a pair of around 15€ black lipstick pickups from our friends at Aliexpress, and here we go with the only lipstick pickup equipped fanned fret 7 strings, which lives in A standard, so one whole tone lower than a regular 7 string guitar.
I just realised the 4-way switch was also around 15€.
The plastic knobs were already in my parts bin, and the purple one matches my couch seatbelt strap as well.
It sounds really nice, and as everyone who has tried it lipstick pickups sound wonderful in series. A lovely klangy baritone guitar sound, with all the register of a normal guitar on top of it.

Yep, that was the 20th entry: we're now up to 21 entries with the white guitar afterwards (and three cats).
The cats are unfortunately ineligible but still greatly appreciated!
12 more to go (or I'll give it a couple more weeks if we don't get to 32).

I bought this Fender Modern Player Jaguar Bass for 180 euros. It had a black poly finish and it was stripped off all electronics and control plates.
The costs atop the 180 euro's where the nitro finish, control plates, pickups (SD SPB-1 and SJB-1, 180 euros), switches, pots and knobs, chrome pickup covers, standard bridge, which adds up to about 550/600 euros. Not pictured here are the Gotoh tuners I put on there later on, which with 89 euros might overshoot the 600 euro mark.

Ok, just for fun… 23?
It’s not a sexy blue Jaguar bass… Punk ass early 70s SG copy. Picked it up for £100, terrible red refin & wrong guard included. It was badly setup for right handed.
Don’t see many of these left handed. Bolt on neck, but plays as nicely as my 89 OBG LP. Pickups were slightly hot PAF things. Way better sounding than it cost (& looks).

I have nothing to offer anybody, except my own confusion?

Yep, we're now up to 23.
And as people are seem to be worrying about the price limit, you can relax! I'm taking a very light-touch approach and I'm completely fine with everything that's been submitted so far. Don't worry about adding up the cost of aftermarket parts or anything like that - that rarely affects resale value anyway.
The only thing withdrawn was Jakeisjake's, but that was voluntary. I think that was the right decision (and I'd encourage another entry if he has one!) but I'd have given then benefit of the doubt and let it slide rather than disqualifying anyone.
The main point is to be a bit of fun, so if it's borderline, I'll give anyone the benefit of the doubt. I'd rather include something borderline than have someone miss out!

Re: OSG World Cup
is it because of the slightly elongated upper horn or that it's sort of an undecided mix of a jazzbass and jaguar?

Re: OSG World Cup
Maybe? I'm not sure that I ever thought about that particular model and shape that deep. I like how the elongated upper horn feels more like a Jaguar than a Jazzmaster. Honestly, I don't like the shape and design of Jazz Basses at all. All other Fender designs I like for one reason or another.

Re: OSG World Cup
My bass is one of the 2009 MIJ Jaguars and I love it. I'm just an average size dude but always found Jazz Basses a bit large feeling. The Jaguar is just that wee bit smaller and feels really comfortable on me, and its weight is perfect.
Plus...chrome. All the chrome.

I somehow ended under without a bass on hand, not that I play bass alot but you need one around just in case and this popped up ridiculously cheap so I picked it up. It is fabulous and shoreline gold, just needed a truss rod adjustment.
My sweet Squier Jazz bass, hard to beat for $125.

It's not the fanciest color or anything, but it's fun as hell.
