I'm oh so very jealous of the BMM '62 you have. That guitar haunts my dreams somewhat

Jon did an amazing job on the paint of this for sure. It didn't feel good when I dinged it the first time though

There's good reason why I never buy/don't keep really clean examples of guitars...I'm WAY too clumsy and heavy handed

I'll try and get something together...it's heavy on the Gibsons at the moment.johnnysomersett wrote: ↑Wed Oct 05, 2022 5:29 amYour number has crept up for sure! We should get an up-to-date family shot

I kinda feel like I'm (nearly) there. Part of me thinks just one guitar for everything would be cool, but equally I reckon I can justify what I have (can't we all?!)
'59 Jazzmaster for recording and drooling at
Marr Jag for gigging
CIJ Burgundy Mist Jazzmaster for gigging
Ryan Jarman Musuar for half step down 90s alt songs
J Mascis Jazzmaster for Biffy/drop C tuning
Bass VI for...stuff
Would love a faded Competition Burgundy Mustang to complete the set.
2 amps for a live stereo setup and a bunch of pedals that cover most sonic ground.

Additional guitar for 1/2 step down feels like a technicality though

Re: Gear minimalism as a thought process...
Im trying to get down right now...
This is what I have at the moment:
Guitars-
1969 competition mustang (blue)
1971 competition mustang (blue) but selling
1980s MIJ jaguar (CAR) but selling
JMJ mustang bass (black)
Johnny Marr Jaguar (yellow)
60s zim-gar Japan hollowbody (blue) I dont play it very much though so maybe selling?
1957 danelectro u-2 (black) selling as soon as it comes back from my tech.
Amps-
1963 tuxedo Princeton (replaced speaker and baffle)
1970s Mitchell pro-50
Roland cube amp (trying out local pickup guitars before purchase)
So hopefully after I sell I will be down to:
1969 competition mustang (blue)
JMJ mustang bass (black)
Johnny Marr Jaguar (yellow)
that should be plenty for me in theory sense I don't gig or play out at the moment.

Thanks! I mean you have to tune ALL THE STRINGS for half a step down, can't do that on the same guitar as standard tuning surely?!sal paradise wrote: ↑Thu Oct 06, 2022 7:29 amThat’s an amazing collection/setup!welshywelsh wrote: ↑Thu Oct 06, 2022 7:25 am

Haha I think my price would likely be more than you would want to pay, I love that guitar more than anything and would probably only sell it for a late 60s -70s JM.welshywelsh wrote: ↑Thu Oct 06, 2022 9:10 amDon't fancy selling that '69 Mustang to me instead and keeping the '71?caples wrote: ↑Thu Oct 06, 2022 7:37 amIm trying to get down right now...

So, my wife just said - "you should sell some guitars and just keep your 10 favourites" - only 10? difficult when you play both bass and guitar!!

Re: Gear minimalism as a thought process...
I think it's a balance between what you play, what you want and what you might need. I put most of my guitars in cases and just played one. I selected a different one for a jam yesterday and at the last movement chose something else. It worked better.
I bought an expensive acoustic last year, barely used it and accidently joined a folk tri and use it a lot. I've got a cheaper one I leave at the 'venue'.
The question I asked is do I need another guitar? The answers usually yes. At some point when I'm really old the electric guitars will go and I'll get a pre war Martin bog oak lowden or both.
I like having lots of options

Surprised this has become a never ending Thread.. I’m not a Minimalist but I check in once in a while to get a chuckle or two… Why you want to sell off the Guitars you wanted so bad? But, I’ve been there too….
I have sold of Guitars that I now regret.. Years later I haven’t found any that compare to a handful I sold & I wish I had them now.. But, they have become so valuable I can’t afford the Quarter of a Million Dollars it would cost to buy them..
Turns out after buying quite a few Guitars they were the best.. I have quite a few now & they’re all nice Guitars.. I do like them.. Some are extremely good & I’ve come to a point of being happy with them.. But, it sucks when you sell magic & can’t get it back…
I hope it doesn’t happen to any of you…..
