Re: Reliced JM copy from Vintage
Awful. Everyone knows how to do picture-perfect strats and teles at any price point, but the cheap Jazzmaster copies are always completely off model, with p90s, toms, square pickguards, cheap trems, why would anyone buy that instead of a 2d hand Squier is completely beyond me.

Yeah, honestly if I could get cheap guitars with finishes that actually aged I would like that. I don’t like the specific appointments these have and I’m
Not necessarily a fan of that goofy pattern they did, but if it would continue to age and stuff it could be cool with a few mods. Yr not getting a wearable finish for less than like $1500 or something these days so

Re: Reliced JM copy from Vintage
Is that why people like MJT? Even if they go with the "closet clean" initial finish job, it will/does age nicely over time, vs. an off-the-shelf Fender or other model?
Would one of those "closet clean" (vs. their Dragged Behind a Train™ option) MJT models show more usage/honest wear in 5-10 years than, say, a MIM or American Professional guitar straight from Fender, because of the type of finish used, the thinness in which it's applied, etc.?
I don't know, I'm asking.

Yes. The finish on an American Standard is bomb proof - if you bang it against something hard enough it might chip but it won't really wear.
Lacquer/nitro finishes will (generally speaking) fade, check, sink in, gently wear away, etc. - but there are levels of lacquer finishing, too. MJTs receive fewer coats so they wear faster than an American Original.

It all fairness, ir doesn't look any different from the many copies out there. The Mory Jazzmaster looks a bit like this and that is a really cool guitar. I only hate the relic job. Everything else, i could live with..

The relic is ugly but the TOM would be the major dealbreaker for me. Hated the way the vibrato felt on the Mascis with one and on a $400 guitar I'm not going to invest in doweling and redrilling for a Staytrem or Mastery.

Re: Reliced JM copy from Vintage
...not when Squier offers similarly-priced versions of "the real thing".
Someone has to actively be wanting the TOM/P-90 thing to get one of these. And that's fine. But these aren't Jazzmasters. They're something else, with a few Jazzmaster-y touches (body shape, tremolo). But those wanting the real thing at this price point have to look no further than Squier. Those who prefer this kind of bridge and those kinds of pickups...well, they're covered too.
Takes all kinds, but someone spending ~$400 only to turn around and do a plug/drill bridge swap and electronics/pickup switching is taking the long way around the bend, and are obviously okay with spending extra money/doing extra work. But those folks certainly exist, so maybe this model appeals to the tinkerers/modders too?

$400?
They're almost $600USD guys. Those prices are in GBP.

Fair point, I didn't look at the price on the site - I just remember Vintages being $350-450 the last time I saw them in a shop... but that was 2-3 years ago.
And to the previous point about Squier, totally. Every recent production Squier offset I've taken off the wall has been solid and they're usually on sale at Guitar Center because they don't move.
