NGD - 2016 Fender Johnny Marr Jaguar
Welp, I did it. I sold a drum kit I had, threw a bit of money on top of it and bought a used Marr Jag. It's my first American Fender. I only got to plug it in for a few minutes at the shop, but it sounded great while I was playing it there. It's a bit late to give it a real run-through this evening, so it'll have to wait til tomorrow. It's surprisingly resonant for a Jag and isn't super heavy. There are a few dings, one on the bottom bout (which can be seen in the first picture), and some more serious paint damage closer to the neck plate. I don't really care about either, the guitar's going to get played, it's not going to be a museum piece.
Just a quick question on this, the guitar came with two bridges, both Mustang style, one has silicone looking post inserts, and another has harder, white looking post inserts. Which one is the stock one? Both of them have an "M" on the bottom, I'm not sure if that means anything.
Anyways, now for the porn. I already ordered a mint pickguard for it, because the stark white on the Oly is a bit ehhh to me, and I'm one of those monsters who doesn't absolutely adore tort.

It's absolutely a holy grail for me too. I had a Jag that I built about 7 or 8 years ago now, ADH body, Allparts neck, a bunch of OSG sourced parts too, selling that is one of my biggest gear regrets. But then this guitar got released and it has pretty much all of the specs that I wanted. Oly White isn't my favorite finish in the world, but it isn't offensive to me either.
This was the cheapest Marr jag I've seen in a bit (and it was still pretty expensive...) but these seem to be going for a premium these days.

Congratulations.
I’ll have to check but I think the silicone ones are stock… (currently a staytrem on mine). are the widths / string spacing the same on both?
Mine is one of my favorite guitars I’ve owned.
I did find a decent nail polish match for the oly if you want a $7 fix for the egregious chips.

Well done on purchasing possibly the best guitar ever made! They don't do *everything* but I genuinely feel mine is the most inspiring instrument I've ever held (any every other one I've played has been equally comfortable). Keep it forever!

Thanks! I figured it out, one was the original 55mm wide one, and then one is the 52mm wide one. The 52mm one is WAY more comfortable for playing higher up on the neck. The action is a smidge higher than I prefer, but that's the joys of a 7.25" radius, I suppose. I also have to get used to using 11 - 52 strings again after playing 10 - 48 on my other guitars for over a year now.cestlamort wrote: ↑Tue Nov 23, 2021 11:06 pmCongratulations.

I was able to plug it in for a bit this morning too, and this really doesn't have a bad sound in it. I forgot that I had the strangle switch on for a while, and all of the pickup positions still sounded great, which isn't something you can say for every Jag. And gain pedals don't act all weird with the strangle switch on either.

Great looking guitar. I adore my Marr Jaguar. Glad you found one.
For what it's worth, I play 10s on my Marr and it works great. I'm pretty sure the body has a built in angle for the neck, and with the Mustang saddles the heavier gauge strings aren't really that necessary. I run 11s on my vintage Jag but the Marr Jag seems to love 10s.

Noted! I actually bought some metal shims to put under the outside saddles on the bridge. I tend to like a flatter radius bridge on rounder necks, so we'll see how that goes. Maybe I'll try 10s on the next go-around too.csg wrote: ↑Thu Nov 25, 2021 3:31 pmGreat looking guitar. I adore my Marr Jaguar. Glad you found one.

FWIW there's a YouTube video of Marr himself saying he tells everyone to use Ernie Ball Power Slinkies on his signature Jag.Jonesie wrote: ↑Thu Nov 25, 2021 5:40 pmNoted! Congrats on getting the best (modern) Jaguar!
I'd get used to the chips as the finish on these is thin and cracks like an eggshell!

That is beautifully worn in! It's also a great looking workstation you have there!Steadyriot. wrote: ↑Fri Nov 26, 2021 2:37 amCongrats on getting the best (modern) Jaguar!

Re: NGD - 2016 Fender Johnny Marr Jaguar
So, I got the mint pickguard I ordered for the guitar today, and it took a pretty decent amount of filing to get it to fit, which was disappointing, so I might order a mint pickguard from a different manufacturer to see if that fits any better. I'm thinking about ordering a Pearl guard and Tort guard too. But here are some pictures of the current look.

Re: NGD - 2016 Fender Johnny Marr Jaguar
The ill-fitting mint guard was pissing me off, because I noticed how badly it was cut whenever I picked up the guitar, so that just couldn't stick around. I ended up buying three different pickguards from a seller on Reverb, mLaval Guitar Parts, and they all fit perfect, and were only about $15.00 each. I got tort, mint and pearl, and decided to go with the pearl for now, I feel like it's a little bit different than what people usually use on these.

Re: NGD - 2016 Fender Johnny Marr Jaguar
...and one last update (for now.) I reached out to John at Staytrem about getting the non-rocking bushings, he sent them out for just the cost of shipping, and I have to say that they're definitely worthwhile. My tuning stability when using the trem is better, and I'm not knocking the bridge back when I'm playing (I have a pretty stiff right hand.) I swear to god it seems like there's a bit more sustain too? Anyways, highly recommended, and I still can't believe I have this awesome guitar.

The mint version looks cool. Seems like you did a good job filing it to me.
