Re: Offsets with cats
I love that there's two different cats pictured in various listing pics but the title just says "cat not included". Is the other one included? I'm really tempted to send the seller a message a la Blues Brothers: How much for the cats?Stephen_42 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 25, 2022 11:02 amI just stumbled upon this on Reverb and smiled:

Re: Offsets with cats
I spend a year trying to befriend the extremely skittish neighbours' cat just so I could post here.

Re: Offsets with cats
Just adopted this sweet girl void from a rescue in South Philadelphia & she’s currently isolating in the studio/spare bedroom while our other cat gets used to the idea of having a little sister. Waiting to see if she tells us her name…

Void would be a cute name for a black cat!
I want more cats but we're waiting for our older cat to enjoy the rest of her life rather than bombard her with the energy of kittens.

We’re leaning towards “Bronwyn,” after the raven-haired Celtic goddess of beauty and love. It seems to suit her. We just lost our thirteen year-old about 6 weeks ago and our 7 year-old wasn’t taking it well; ironically, he’s not taking the kitten well, either. This 15 pound, tri-pawed chonk is terrified of a 4 pound kitten.

I'm sorry to hear you lost one , that's always so hard. Your orange cat looks just like our cat Bilbo that we lost a few years ago. We got Bilbo in a pair with her sister when we got our house. We tried to introduce a 3rd at one point but it went pretty badly and soured us on the idea. We had to pass our 3rd on to someone else when she scratched our daughters face.Lost In Autumn wrote: ↑Fri Jul 22, 2022 12:40 pmWe’re leaning towards “Bronwyn,” after the raven-haired Celtic goddess of beauty and love. That guy, wow! So handsome! Does he love cuddles?
Adults usually hate kittens. Also it's a hassle feeding separately. Sometimes the adult immediately bonds with a new kitten, but often they hate it. It's interrupting the play and attention they want from you. Be sure to make a point of petting and interacting with the adult while ignoring the kitten at least a few times per day. Let them see how the kitten doesn't interrupt your time with them. Not always anyhow.
My orange cat pal Sonny is a total pet and play hog, but I just push him aside and he waits. He knows he'll get his turn.
My brother got these at about 8 or 9 weeks, both feral but a family had been taking care of them. They are slowly mellowing out. I won't see them for a few months and I'm excited to see how they've grown. They're playing in this:

Lieutenant Dan is a peculiar boy. my partner rescued him after he was thrown out of a car window on I-95, between Philly and Baltimore. He received a concussion in the incident and a leg that was so badly broken, that it had to be amputated. I don't doubt that he'd received more abuse before that. He's very shy with strangers and pardon the analogy, behaves much like a child with autism: he has his routines and doesn't like them to be interrupted. I met him when he was a year old- he initially hid when I came over, but after a few visits, he'd sit on the stairs in my partner's row house and watch me. after 2-1/2 years, he'd worked up to allowing me to pet him on the mat in her bathroom, once. He had two "sisters," one who was 6-7 years older and the other who was geriatric and died at 21, 4 years ago. He's been living with me for 4 years now- he will let me pick him up in the morning, he'll swish my legs when I'm putting wet food in his bowl, which I take as a cue, whether he means it or not, to pick him up and give him pets; he'll also run and jump on the back of the sofa, which is his safe space for petting, but he doesn't want to be picked up there. Ditto for the bed, which he'll all me to give him pets, but he'll meow loudly at me, as if to admonish me to say "Don't pick me up!" the closest I'll get to cuddling with him, is when my partner picks him up and brings him over to me, when I'm sitting on the sofa or have just gotten into bed: he'll put his paw on my shoulder and lean into me and give me hard boops on the forehead, while purring loudly. He's much more permissive with my partner, he's a total mama's boy that way; if the doorbell rings or strangers come over, he'll run and hide under the bed in the bedroom. like I said, he's a peculiar boy; it's clear that he's had some trauma early on, but generally, he's happy and living his best life as a very spoiled and indulged cat.
we have had some positive developments: after 36 hours of either deliberately ignoring the kitten, gently growling and hissing if she was in the room, or hiding from her, he spent the wee hours of the morning sitting in front of her door as they meowed at each other and he occasionally hissed. He wouldn't leave the hallway when I fed him this morning, so he's definitely curious about her now. the plan is to do some short introductions with positive reinforcement, giving him treats for being a good boy when she's out.

I still don't own a cat so I borrowed one.
