Re: NGD: 50s SQ CV JM
Now is the time to buy some Squiers. I might not have been 'objectively enough' since I simply swapped parts instead of fixing 'little isuues': it could have been easily done, and I don't want to leave the impression that only 'expensive parts can solve the problem'. the guitar was perfectly fine (major gripes: trem arm length and anaemic fretboard), but anyway, a mighty fine guitar at 400 bucks price point. I've been mixing up parts for the last 3 hours anyway, so I won't be able to send it back. A keeper guitar, even if you don't care about swapping bridges or such. Everything seems to be pre-mediated. There's a Mustang bridge, nice pups, setup is nice, ash.print is over the top (of course!), but really, this is a decent guitar.

she plays loud and true, I swapped necks again: I happen to be in a luxurious position, but I could'nt care less: that singular particular Squier seems to be a mighty fine guitar in the "400 bucks range". not dissapointed at all. my 2p

neck and parts will show up in FS section, but rest assured: good stuff. I'll keep this guitar dammit. no trading on the forums.

"Blonde" next. Don't miss out. This is nuts. Maybe I was 'just lucky' dudes & dudettes, and whatever. Sorry for being a spoilt brat, and o.g. neck needed treatment, but extremely nice material. Totally baffled.

Re: NGD: 50s SQ CV JM
when I was sixteen, I could only afford jazz/jags, a strat was beyond my reach. then i bought a strat and it was utter shite. I dunno, but this is a real nice instrument even without 'upgrades'-

Re: NGD: 50s SQ CV JM
My CV JM really became something super special when I put the PUPs & tailpiece from the ECJM, and then put the Staytrem bridge & arm on it.
Like you said, now's the time to buy!

I kind of want a gold guard for it.

So Thomann has these on sale right now at €349
https://www.thomann.de/de/fender_sq_cv_ ... VGEALw_wcB
But I just won't. Damn.
I really have no need or space for more guitars (especially Squiers) right now. I will regret it, i know.

Re: NGD: 50s SQ CV JM
I’m over here across the pond with my blonde. Had her for almost a month now, can’t put it down. Very good guitar for the money, my first offset guitar, and making me want another now or a 70’s jag to go with it. I think CMI actually polished the frets on mine because they’re smoother than my Am Dlx Tele’s (albeit she’s 15 years older). Neck overall feels very comfortable and familiar, it’s like my tele with 9.5” radius board but a slightly narrower nut (these guitars are 9.5” I think with the exception of cosmetics and the veneers, they are the same guitar as the CV60s, I played those at GC and decided they were good from that, then I discovered the 50s and was all in, I wanted to build my own looking exactly like these guitars, probably saved myself around $800 by going this route rather than building). I’d says the veneers don’t look super ashy (at least not swamp ash, the grain is very straight compared to swamp ash, but still very visible through the finish like I wanted).
I did replace the toggle switch (major weak point on most cv JMs from what I’ve read) as it developed some dead selections on the bridge pickup. Also put black tips on selector and trem so the plastic parts all match now. Followed pushieen’s suggestions with CV guitars and loctite’d the bridge height screws (retrospect the saddles do need some, the G saddle is extra rattley also the high E saddle tends to walk away from center, so the string is a bit dead sounding, might loctite it against the B saddle) slotted the nut slots for 10 - 46 (what I use on all my guitars). Put a 1 degree shim in it and raised the bridge to about 5/16” of an inch off the pickguard from the bottom of the bridge. The trem does have quite a bit of boing to it compared to a strat style trem, I actually like it for the Steve Vai style trem crashes where the note sounds like it’s choking it’s vibrating so hard. Plan to get my hands on a panorama for it if I get lucky, seen a few on Darren ryley, so they’re out there. Pickups are good sounding to me. (Not being a JM user long term) they sound like nothing else I have, and they are definitely now p90s in tone.
Plan to add series/parallel via S1 switch. Might run the toggle into the rhythm circuit, but can’t decide if that’s something I want or not, I like being able to use the rhythm circuit and jump straight to the bridge pickup for lead at the flick of the rhythm switch, which would become a two step process if I have both pickups in the circuit.
Without further ado:

Re: NGD: 50s SQ CV JM
oh that blonde is looking much better than the catalogue pics congrats!
never thought I'd ever become a Squier fanboy, but what can I do, this series seems to be value will swap necks again tomorrow just for the sake of it and I suspect I'll keep the MK neck on the guitar, but if so, that will be mostly because of neck profile (tad fatter) and not because of fretwork or such.
