Having watched a bit of Khruangbin stuff lately I became curious about the SX Jazz Bass that Laura Lee plays, it seemed like a pretty solid instrument from a maker I had thought of as probably cheap-and-nasty. Anyway a secondhand store advertised the same model as hers for a reasonable used price so I picked it up. So far - it's pretty darn good. I used to have an AVRI J Bass but couldn't afford to keep it, which was definitely a level up in quality, but as a playing instrument this is solid, accurately made and nice to play. One of those designs where the pickup covers really add something I think.
I did replace the knobs, they were the chrome barrel style which seemed wrong.
The colour is weird - I don't know if it's meant to be a dark Seafoam, yellowed Daphne or just an emerald green. The pickguard is a very odd colour I'd call "dark parchment" or maybe cafe latte - it might have start4ed out white and oxidised, I think this is about 12 years old. Excuse the blur in this snap I took with a white reference.
Anyway, a solid J Bass, very much worth picking up if you're after a workhorse without the brand name. Next step: flatwounds.

It was one of these that got me into music over 15 years ago (wow - 2003?!). I wish I still had it!

I'm curious if anyone knows whether the pickguards were this colour when they were new (like the Trump-orange "vintage" neck) or if the plastic has gone weird over time ...
It really is pretty nice overall, I'm happy with it.

Have you tried removing the finger rest to see if the pickguard underneath it has the original color?

That's nuts - I have been pretty busy with work and hadn't even thought to try that. Sure enough it's dead white underneath ... !
