Thunder Road Guitars Anniversary Guitars
Anyone else see these? They just had their 10 year anniversary (Idk when but seems to be the case) and released a bunch of Fender Custom Shop collab guitars based on vintage pieces they bought and sold over the years.
The black jazzy w/matching headstock is killer - https://reverb.com/item/45686473-new-f ... t=45686473.
They also did a Sonic Blue over sunburst Jag https://reverb.com/item/45686543-new-f ... t=45686543
And a couple of other guitars, notably a maple neck double bound lake placid blue tele based on a ‘69 that I’m diggin https://www.thunderroadguitars.com/stor ... blue-relic
I know the Fender special runs for shops are no new thing, but it’s cool to see more shops doing that sort of thing and including offsets, even if they’re priced way out of my budget

That’s really cool. Always very tasteful stuff there. They were right by my office (back when I went into the office; unfortunately more expensive than my lunch budget) and always have nice guitars (and are a really nice shop).

I did. I hate the sickly green guard on the black JM. C’mon, Fender. Do better.

I mean... these are cool, but who the hell buys this stuff?
The black JM looks like an absurdly expensive version of my MIJ JM - wonder how much "better" it is.

I realize that original custom color black guitars are super rare and valuable. But (as some others have pointed out too), black Fenders are a dime a dozen. I guess if black guitars are you're thing and you really want a custom shop JM, these are an ok option. But there are three other CS black JMs on Reverb now too. So even CS black JMs aren't hard to come by.
I love Thunder Road as a store but I was hoping that they'd make more interesting and more accessible stuff for their anniversary. More like the special Japanese and Mexican runs that CME does.

Thanks! Thomastik 12s on a JM is perfection, loveliest cleans imaginable with an old Ampeg combo!smjenkins wrote: ↑Tue Oct 19, 2021 8:58 amNice Thomastiks!garyfanclub wrote: ↑Tue Oct 19, 2021 8:42 amThe black JM looks like an absurdly expensive version of my MIJ JM - wonder how much "better" it is.

You don't buy a $4600 Custom Shop Jazzmaster because it's better in any meaningful sense, you buy it because you can (and like the paint job or some idea of craftsmanship you attach to it or whatever).garyfanclub wrote: ↑Tue Oct 19, 2021 8:42 amThe black JM looks like an absurdly expensive version of my MIJ JM - wonder how much "better" it is.

I still struggle to understand that price tag for specs that are plentiful in the market. Like... for that money I can buy a Music Man with exotic woods on a weird body with a bazillion switches, all using the very best materials and craftsmanship. Or a semi-custom guitar from well-reputed boutique builders like Suhr/Tom Anderson, or a custom spec guitar from a big OEM like Schecter, Jackson or ESP. Or heck, I can just buy a high-end production Jazzmaster then run it through a reputable shop to give it the very best parts and setup to my taste - even having enough for a complete refinish if I wanted.wooderson wrote: ↑Thu Oct 21, 2021 3:01 pmYou don't buy a $4600 Custom Shop Jazzmaster because it's better in any meaningful sense, you buy it because you can (and like the paint job or some idea of craftsmanship you attach to it or whatever).garyfanclub wrote: ↑Tue Oct 19, 2021 8:42 amThe black JM looks like an absurdly expensive version of my MIJ JM - wonder how much "better" it is.
I suppose some people just want to get their hands on the best Fender can offer no matter the looks or the cost, but in today's world the possibilities are too endless for such brand loyalty...

Guitars are all like four thousand dollars now.
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

They can't.If you leave it out in the summer sun for a few days it'll fade to a more neutral and less sick looking parchment colour.marqueemoon wrote: ↑Tue Oct 19, 2021 7:54 amI did. I hate the sickly green guard on the black JM. C’mon, Fender. Do better.
Seems like the actual vintage guitars these are based on would be cheaper than these reproductions.

A buddy of mine works in the Portland store. He's in danger every time he walks in the door, although he gets some great deals. He picked up a Danelectro 12 for $200, yesterday.rbrcbr wrote: ↑Tue Oct 19, 2021 6:59 amAnyone else see these? Not anymore. For a pre-CBS Jazzmaster in playable condition and refinished, you're talking a couple thousand more than a Custom Shop guitar.andy_tchp wrote: ↑Thu Oct 21, 2021 11:55 pmThey can't.If you leave it out in the summer sun for a few days it'll fade to a more neutral and less sick looking parchment colour.marqueemoon wrote: ↑Tue Oct 19, 2021 7:54 amI did. That Jag has a really cool vibe. I'd love to see the original.

It has gone crazy across the board. I gave up shopping around for a Ric 330, because they all went from 2K to 4K over the last year. Insanity.
