NBD! Firemist Silver refinished Squier Mustang Bass

New refinished bass day! This is a Squier CV 60s mustang bass, originally surf green, refinished in firemist silver with matching headstock, superbly done by Copacetic Customs.

The color: The paint is Cadillac Firemist Blue Poly 92/WA3263 (1964) from Everest/Mahopac Auto Paint. I took a chance having never seen the paint in real life, and whether or not it’s an accurate representation of Fender’s color, I’m super happy with the way it turned out. We tried some samples with tinted nitro clear to get that greened out aged look, but I just loved the untinted poly clear more.

Other details: The aged pearloid guard is from Precision Guitars in Phoenix AZ and complements the color perfectly for me. The clear kind of bubbled up around the decal, but I can live with it. (Edit: Copacetic normally uses his own decals, but I couldn't find a Squier decal that looked good, so I ended up using a Fender one. The back still says “Crafted in Indonesia” so I'm not trying to convince anyone it's a real Fender.). The pickups sound good to me, but I'm no pickup expert. The strings are LaBella flats 760F-MUS for string-through mustang basses and are silky smooth, sweet, and highly recommended.

Overall I’m really happy with how this project turned out and totally love this color! Compared to my Fender IBM tele, it’s a nice lighter blue, cooler and more silvery:

That looks very nice. I have an MB with a really light pau ferro board. That rosewood really makes the whole thing pop.

Nice refin. Did they also do the back of the neck?

Looks like Copacetic Customs might be

Thanks! Copacetic normally uses his own decals, but I couldn't find a Squier decal that looked good, so I ended up using a Fender one. The back still says “Crafted in Indonesia” so I’m not trying to convince anyone it's a real Fender. I wish it were easier to find a halfway decent Squier decal.

I’d prefer a rosewood fretboard, but the Squier CVs are Indian Laurel, which can sometimes be darker or grayer than rosewood.

I do like the nato body which is super lightweight for a lazy player like me who doesn’t really mind neck dive. This one is 6 lbs 10oz!

I have a Fender in Firemist Silver and I can say that the color looks pretty damn accurate to me. Looks great.
