That’s really good to hear. I’m considering dropping that same setup in one of mine.pocaloc wrote: ↑Sun May 08, 2022 7:24 pmI also had black bobbin Lollar pickups installed as well as the 280k pots and paper in oil capacitor that black bobbin suggests. I love the look and sound. I’ve only had it back for two days but I can say I love these pickups. They’re a big improvement over stock. I also can tell what the 280k pots do to the sound and it’s nothing but good. I can use the bridge pickup now and nothing has been lost on the middle and neck positions. I was afraid I would lose to much treble but there is nothing but good treble on tap now.

I really like the black bobbin set up. I would say the video by black bobbin on YouTube where he plays a sunburst American Original with a clean sound is a very accurate representation of how the setup sounds. I don’t know for sure if his choice of magnets make it all that different from standard Lollars but I really like the 280 k pots, plus they’re pretty affordable.

It looks great, the tort really brings it all together.
I can't imagine ever putting pots as low as 280k into a JM without it significantly altering the fundamental characteristics of the JM sound but, hey, if they work for you and sound good... I'm happy for you
Congrats on a fine guitar

Thank you. Honestly the middle position and neck are still pure Jazzmaster, just the bridge itself has enough of a cut on treble to make it enjoyable to play for me. I was really hesitant to go with 280k but I’m surprised that there is still more than enough treble. I know what Black Bobbin is going for is to try and re-create an aged Jazzmaster pickup sound. I’ve never tried a vintage Jazzmaster, so I wouldn’t know, but it seems to subtly soften the treble.

Still kicking myself for not buying the last b-stock CFM Thin Skin that had a little scratch on the headstock or something. "They'll have another run in a few months, maybe more '62 style..."

I used to stare at these on Wildwood as I watched them disappear. I couldn’t afford it at the time. I bought this one used for the same price as it would’ve been new. It is pretty close to new condition. I like everything about it, the case, and even the case candy is well done.
