Featherweight and feels like a dream
Talk about the Fender Jazzmaster, Jaguar, and any other offset waist guitars with us!

Very cool! I've been looking at them for some time. I ended up doing a parts build with a Squier CV '60s daphne blue body, a sonic blue Fender American '62 Reissue Jazzmaster neck that I believe is from the same run as the Dave's '62 Limiteds that I bought off of Reverb from The Stratosphere, and put in some Fralin Hum-Cancelling Jazzmaster pickups.
That looks awesome, such a bold take on the guard! That is 100% the Daves Sonic blue neck with the aged clay dots. Isn't the neck just the best feeling? Perfectly rolled and skinny to medium early 60s C. I deal with the skinny tall frets that are so popular these days but the medium jumbos are just my fav (Gibson guy here too).Surfysonic wrote: ↑Thu Jun 17, 2021 7:47 pmVery cool! It has the same clay dots aesthetic (I love the clay dot look) as the Ltd. Edition '62 RI's from Dave's. I'd definitely go for the Fiesta Red, too...and the Lake Placid Blue Strat.
Some day! Congrats again!
Thanks! I can't take credit for the abalone pearloid pickguard - Mike (mbene085) had it on an excellent '62 AVRI Thin Skin JM in Sonic Blue that he used in a trade deal a few years ago. I ended up having to sell the '62 AVRI Thin Skin JM a little bit later on but I kept the spiffy pickguard, replacing it with a mint pickguard, which, to me, is always the go-to classic look. When it came time to put a pickguard on this JM partsbuild, I was initially going to put on a mint or cream pickguard but then I found this one that was used on the '62 AVRI and remembered how much I liked it on the '62 AVRI Thin Skin JM. So thanks again for exceptional taste, Mike!trustee wrote: ↑Sat Jun 19, 2021 4:01 amThat looks awesome, such a bold take on the guard! That is 100% the Daves Sonic blue neck with the aged clay dots. Very nice, thanks for sharing that!Surfysonic wrote: ↑Sat Jun 19, 2021 9:36 amThanks! I've got to get me some white switches and rollers for JM and Jag upper bouts - another nice aesthetic choice by Mike.
I knew that if this neck was from Dave's Guitar shop when I bought it off Stratosphere that it was going to be a tad slimmer than my usual mid-60s C preference. I do like the neck well enough in fit and feel. I've been spending the past several months adjusting my play style to get along with my guitars that have slimmer necks like this JM partsbuild, my Squier Paranormal Offset neck and my Gibson Les Paul Special Tribute.
It hasn't been really too difficult as my Gretsch Country Club and Gretsch Chet Atkins Hollow Body guitars have about the same slim shape albeit with flatter, 12" radius. Gretsch calls them Standard "U" shape...definitely not a Fender U shape.
For Telecasters and Stratocasters, I usually go for a chunky U neck shape with the exception of my AV '65 Strat, which has the mid-60s C shape.
7.8 lbs bordering on 7.9. Very light for the USA ones/JM these days. Feels balanced and has that chimey ring/resonance (all my CS and USA thin skins/flash coat nitro guitars have this quality to them) I have seen some custom shops and wildwood ones in the 7.6-7.9 range too. Thanks!PJazzmaster wrote: ↑Sat Jun 19, 2021 10:14 amWow. Great score! Please tell me, what is the actual weight? I am curious now
Cool. THAT is light for a Jaguar Finding one under 7,8 is almost impossible.trustee wrote: ↑Sat Jun 19, 2021 5:29 pm7.8 lbs bordering on 7.9. Very light for the USA ones/JM these days.
