Iconic Guitars 68JM
hey, everyone! So I recently took the position of Director of Sales for a boutique guitar company and noticed that our line was woefully devoid of JM / Jag style offsets. I'm working on that now. So, I started with a guitar for MYSELF! haha. What better thing to do, Right? This is my 68JM Model that I had built as a recreation of my old 1968 Jazzmaster I had and let go of a few years ago. I know that the late 60's Jazzmasters aren't exactly the most coveted models, but mine was just something special. So here is what I came up with! I'm going to explore the forums and try to get a deeper knowledge that will hopefully help me develop some more models that will most accurately represent their golden Era counterparts. Right now I'm on a quest to discover the differences between the late 50's Black Bobbin sound and the 60's Grey bobbin sound. If anyone has a thread they could direct me to, that would be awesome!

Looks like a nice build. If you’re going to make more, may I suggest Fender dimensions on the block inlays and # of inlays. Either way, beautiful guitar.

I actually really like '68 sunbursts. They aren't too red, but can tell they aren't 2-tone. Everything about this looks great which is expected as Iconic makes some incredible guitars. Do you work for Iconic?

Yeah, agreed - it’s been impossible to find a custom neck with proper blocks so that’d be great. But the ones on there look good and I can’t tell if it’s different than a real old Fender, which makes me like it way more than the things Fender does now with block inlays. Are these different?Unicorn Warrior wrote: ↑Fri May 07, 2021 11:59 amLooks like a nice build. If you’re going to make more, may I suggest Fender dimensions on the block inlays and # of inlays. If you did a Jag version and put it in LPB with a matching headstock I’d probably buy one because this looks awesome

Ok so I’d never heard of Iconic Guitars until seeing this thread today, but I’m glad you posted it because they’re awesome and seem to be pleasantly affordable, especially compared to some Custom Shop thing. Really cool and something I’ll definitely be keeping my eye on
And now I notice that there’s an extra block on the neck, what UW meant WRT number of blocks. The shape looks really good and close though, again especially compared to modern Fender variants

Honestly, I appreciate that you guys do some fun custom order stuff so when I have some cash saved up I'm probably gonna jump on one of these. Any chance you'll do a reverse-headstock JM with an American Professional control layout (toggle on the top horn, no rhythm circuit)?

I like the look of that. Block necks on offsets were my original exposure to them as those were still pretty cheap in secondhand shops in the 90s. I think the sizing is comparable too.
You should have a cheeky nod to the era by doing an enlarged version of your own headstock on it... I love the big ol' paddles of the 70s ones

Looks like quality stuff. Nice to see another option that doesn't stray too far from the original layout (unless you want to )

We are really trying to produce top tier guitars that people can actually afford. Reverse headstock with American Professional controls... yes and yes! Let me know when you're ready.HarlowTheFish wrote: ↑Fri May 07, 2021 4:41 pmHonestly, I appreciate that you guys do some fun custom order stuff so when I have some cash saved up I'm probably gonna jump on one of these.
