NGD Bilt Relevator

Post by HNB » Sat Apr 24, 2021 4:07 pm

Saw Rio post this for sale and didn't have cash. I saw him mention on instagram that it was his favorite guitar since a Danocaster he had. I had a Dano that I wasn't playing a lot because it is a Jaguar and I am pretty full into full scale guitars. I have been looking at Gretsch guitars lately but I don't like mahogany necks and I am not super into set neck construction. I saw this had TV Jones pickups and it got my interest. Haven't tried those before. I also saw the trem and bridge are Mastery and my favorite guitars have that setup. I am also a fan of the sort of Marauder look these have. The roasted alder body and roasted maple neck looked awesome and I thought the black guard and black bound and block neck was really nice looking. I sent him a message to see if he wanted to trade and he was cool with it. We met up today in Tacoma and traded. :D I am happy that the Dano will get play and I am happy to have a guitar I will be a lot more likely to use. :D

Here are the specs. :D

I am going to change out the jack to a pure tone one. I like how those grip a lot. I will also install dual design strap locks as I always do. Other than that, I want to put black tele knobs on it. I think those will fit my taste more than the amp ones. :) I am uploading a demo now. :)

I probably would have jumped on this one if I'd had the money. Super nice.

I like that you can see the wood. Call me a hippie (lol), but it seems a shape to color over a nice piece of wood. :)

Going to try some new pickups in it. :) The T Armonds are ok, but on the noisy side in my house. It also gave me a chance to check out what is under the guard. :)

No shielding. The guard is aluminum, but no cavity shielding. I am guessing this could be the cause of some of the noise.

It also looks like they use a universal cavity shape and then add to it. (The bare wood pieces added to attach the plate to. The lower one had a split where the screw goes in so I have wood clue in it and my small screwdriver set is pressing it closed while it dries. :)

Electronics look good.

Once I sell the pickups, I will use the money to get a nice set of mini humbuckers for it. Should keep the cool look and help ditch the noise. :D

Not sure whether it diminishes your enjoyment of the guitar to know it's a Relevator (whatever that is) and not a Revelator.

Congrats on the BilT! I’ve had several now, and every time I pick one up, I’m reminded of how great they play. The T-Armonds do sound good, but that swimming pool route is an invitation to play around with pickups. What are you thinking of putting in? If that’s a humbucker size route in the guard, the Silver Hand Missing Link + is one I’d highly recommend based on recent experience with a Zaftig.

The opening is 2 3/4" by 1 1/4" with a screw spacing like 3 1/8"? Is that mini humbucker size? That is what I am hoping. I might have Revel pickups make me a mini humbucker. They made me a Jazzmaster humbucker set and I liked them. :D
