So is there any place to get a correctly shaped control plate?

That's a really good question. A lot of companies now selling them use the wrong picture, so it's hard to know what you're getting until it arrives.

Sorry for resurrecting an older thread, but was wondering if there was any update on this. I actually need one for a CIJ Mustang, which I assume actually makes things more difficult.

I just ordered the one from Angela. It nearly the exact same as my 1964 one. The only place it’s of is on the right side (body edge side) “horn” at the top. Original on bottom in pic. It’s thicker as well at 1.65mm vs the 1.3mm of the original.

Yeah, that looks legit. The US style one's are much rounder at the top there, whereas the Japanese ones are kinda pointy.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but just realized a mustang control plate I bought has that awful newer shape, and I am well out of the return window.

Does anyone here know if this AllParts plate is the correct shape? Or know of other plates that are the correct shape currently for sale?

Pretty sure the newer Allparts Mustang control plates are the wrong shape. Even though that display image would suggest otherwise.
Allparts can be a bit weird like that, like how their Jazzmaster Pickguards are supposed to fit USA Jazzmasters but are actually made for older Japan ones.

seems like the american performer mustang is less wonky - no?

I really want one of these - but now?

https://shop.fender.com/en-US/electric- ... 10372.html
The control plates on the American performers are the correct design.
So, the American Performer uses a part labeled as "13 PLATE CONTROL CYCLONE 0053718000" while the original Vintera uses "8 CONTROL PLATE MUSTANG 0094867000" and the Ben Gibbard seems to use the same plate ("7 CONTROL PLATE MUSTANG 0094867000").

Why even have two different parts for the same thing?

There's no part numbers, yet, for the Vintera II, but this looks correct, right?

Yeah, they seem to have corrected the control plate on all new Vintera II Mustangs.
Also, my 2022 built Jag-stang has the correct control plate too.
So, it seems all Mexican Mustangs and Jagstangs made during/after 2022 now have the correct shape.

Funny thing is, now Japan are using the wonky ones on their Mustangs.

Im thinking someone messed up the CAD file 4 years ago and they realized too late, and they're finally running out of the wonky ones lol. Also hilarious that the only ones that the correct plate for a while were the squiers, including the bottom of the line bullet.

So by that information, I think this plate is the correct shape, looking at the serial number.

I would just love to know why there's two part numbers for what's supposed to be the same part. :derp:

It would be interesting to find out out how the crap version came to be. There's no deviation in the design with any vintage Mustangs, not even the 70s Mustangs.
So, yeah I'm going with, they screwed up the CAD file at some point, over the last decade.
