The decals on both our guitars' headstocks are placed much further to the left than usual for vintage and modern Jazzmasters. This annoyed a bit me when I got the guitar, but now that I know that it wasn't an accident, but just how it was done in early 98, I don't mind.

Oh! Now that you say it, I see it! Very cool that we have another identifier. It reminds of how the Gibson crown insert in the headstock would move up or down depending on the era - now we have something like that too, at least for two guitars!Jahn wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 2:52 pmHaustnótt wrote: ↑Wed Feb 10, 2021 6:30 amI'm so happy my guitar's long lost sibling was found. Browsing this thread makes me sad because I don't see any Mustangs...
No one has anything from the huge drop they did at NAMM 2013, or one of Char's custom shop models?

So order one and put it on the thread.
FCS doesn't really go out of their way to make 'special runs' of Mustangs for stores. There just isn't enough broad interest. My INTERNET EXPERT analysis is that very very few of the scapegoat boomers really coveted Mustangs when they first started selling them since they were the 'cheaper' model. Maybe now that Gen X and Millennials are getting older and a few are able to afford such things a few more FCS Mustangs will be built, but I won't hold my breath. I wonder what the ratio of Mustangs to the other guitars that FCS pumps out is? I bet it's like 1:2,000 at least.

Haha, I asked because I've never seen Fender or a retailer sell CS Mustangs but I do know they exist. Apparently there was some sort of limited run last year even, but I never heard about it.Jaguar018 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 01, 2021 6:19 amSo order one and put it on the thread.

Re: Post your Custom Shop Offsets
Hey! Long time lurker! I picked up one of the NAMM 2013 Mustangs last summer. Not had much experience with custom shop guitars outside one I tried before I picked up this one but it's is by far the most comfortable guitar I've ever played. I've got smaller hands and play lazy index finger/little finger bar chords so the short scale/custom shop appointments are perfect for me. Pickups sound lovely if a little bright but it's nothing the tone knob can't calm down.
Only issues I've found are the tuners are a little tight but I suspect a bit of a clean would sort that out. They've been aged a bit so I wonder if that has affected how they work. The volume and tone knobs are super loose as well. Not sure if that's how they're supposed to be but it's very easy to nudge them slightly and turn the guitar right down.
Fair warning, I've put some stickers on it so maybe shut your eyes if you're not into that.

Re: Post your Custom Shop Offsets
I'm a big fan of the bog standard Custom Shop team-built relic models, particularly those made before 2015, or so.
Personally, I think Fender's finish aging was the most realistic during this period and they weren't doing all these wacky gimmicks (sunburst over paisley? roasted necks?) and these are great value used.
I have a couple vintage JMs but really love this 2014 Custom Shop model. In fact, I bought this very guitar twice! The only changes I've made were a Mastery bridge and swapped the snot green original pickguard for a Spitfire mint.

This seems as an appropriate place as any on here to ask this:
Have any of you ever bought a CS model and felt, well, underwhelmed?
After a few months of owning and playing it I've come to the sad conclusion that, after lusting for - and eventually treating myself to - what I thought was the ultimate current production example Jazzmaster ...that I actually prefer playing my old beat-up MIJ

While I’m sorry you may feel a bit underwhelmed, I’m kinda glad you are honest about it. I very nearly pulled the trigger on a custom build CS last year. With an amount of money I really didn’t need to spend on a guitar. I often wonder “what if?”…and your statement reminds me of this old beater 75’ mustang I got rid of. Now it’s worth quite a bit more, but 5 or 6 years ago it was the same price as a standard strat. But I traded it for something that was supposedly worth quite a bit more. I was so unsatisfied with the more expensive instrument. As a matter of fact, there’s a lot of things about my rig I liked better before I “upgraded”.johnnysomersett wrote: ↑Mon Aug 02, 2021 11:43 amThis seems as an appropriate place as any on here to ask this:

Just serves as a reminder to enjoy what you have. Everything could always be better. What matters is the art you’re making and the heart that it’s coming from more than anything.
New gear is fun and can be inspirational, but not always. For the longest time I’ve been married to the thrill of the chase rather than the thrill of the already achieved. I think the latter is where the good stuff comes from.
