I've seen some CV (and Affinity and Contemporary too) demo models starting to show up on eBay in the past day or two, maybe they'll end up coming out sooner. I haven't played any of the Modern Players before to compare but I'll be all over the Walnut CV if it's a decent quality guitar.

I have the MP. It replaced my trusty Toronado as my #1.

I feel like they’re going to 100% be exactly the same. Do we know if they’re from the same factory or not?
It’s silly, but had they just done the MP as a Squier in the first place I don’t think I’d ever have been even remotely as annoyed as I was at all the changes. I’m really excited about these things and can’t wait to get one. Wish they were still doing them in black though

These are Indonesian, the MPs were China. I think they'll be pretty much the same. Lower price, same-ish quality makes getting aftermarket pickups a little more palatable.Mechanical Birds wrote: ↑Tue Aug 27, 2019 7:32 pmI feel like they’re going to 100% be exactly the same. I'm sure some Fender dealer in '64 looked at the new Duo-Sonic II and thought, "That's not a Duo-Sonic. That's a Mustang".

I would think the MP was made in the Classic Vibe factory. Since the CV is also moving to Indonesia, I see some logic.vistavision wrote: ↑Tue Aug 27, 2019 8:05 pmThese are Indonesian, the MPs were China. I think they'll be pretty much the same. I have the MP Starcaster in black and love it. But I'm lusting after the CV in walnut although I won't be getting one. I wish the MP model had that finish option! Black was the best of a poor selection of finishes on the MP - I hate sunburst and the natural finish was too much yellow when paired with the maple fingerboard.

I laugh because that sounds like me. I went maple because I have a black electric already, but I hate burst 99% of the time too.JPCordingley wrote: ↑Mon Sep 02, 2019 11:08 pmI have the MP Starcaster in black and love it. Old-ish thread revival (gotta love that search function!)
Since these have been out a while now can anyone chime in on if the Fender-badged ones are noticeably any different to the Squier? I've never played an OG Starcaster but don't want to throw 3-4k on one to 'dip the toe'. I am aware the pickups are just straight-up wrong but I'm guessing the feel isn't too far off?

I have an MP and while it’s a favorite feeling guitar to play; the pickups truly are awful.johnnysomersett wrote: ↑Tue Jul 20, 2021 10:13 pmOld-ish thread revival (gotta love that search function!)

Re: Fender MP vs Squier CV Starcaster
I have a CV and tried but didn't buy an MP when they were new. I couldn't notice a difference between the two.
In terms of how much either will feel like an original Starcaster, the answer is probably not very much due to the different bridge. And as you said, the pickups are different too, but I've never played actual WRHBs so can't compare. There also other diffences like the lack of 5th knob and aesthetic changes like the f-holes having binding if that sort of thing bothers you.
But as a good semi-hollow guitar, it can stand on its own merits.

I've played real WRHBs and have had Creamery ones in my main JMs for many many years now and can truly say I'm a big fan of their sound - and it's a very specific sound. I am aware it won't sound right in the slightest - but that can be fixed.Stephen_42 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 22, 2021 12:18 amI have a CV and tried but didn't buy an MP when they were new. I guess the dip-your-toe-in thing is more about fit and feel with body shape etc.
I dunno. I'm actually off to my local Guitar shop this morning to drop a couple of guitars off for a fret dress and I'm pretty sure they have a couple there so I might test one out.

I wouldn't say the pickups in the CV are trash. They're not the first thing I'd rave about with the guitar, but it sounds pleasantly warm when plugged in. I really like the clean sound I can get from it.
