NGD - '01 Fender Cyclone II
https://imgur.com/a/Ky4DalF
Hey guys, first post here.
Picked up this a few weeks back from a guy on FB after narrowly missing out on it first time (I got super lucky and the original buyer flaked out).
Always liked these as Aaron North formerly of The Icarus Line/Nine Inch Nails played one and I was intrigued by the Gibson scale on a Fender idea. Really liking it - the Daphne Blue has changed to a nice Surf Green and the pickups are great. I gave it a good clean up, added a mint 'guard and it plays like a dream.
You don't see these around much - I guess the idea didn't catch on. I'm pretty mystified how these came about...

Wonderful! The mint pickguard looks great. I have a friend who still has the one he bought back when they were new. I'm still envious.
So, if you don't mind, how much??

I'm sure some Fender dealer in '64 looked at the new Duo-Sonic II and thought, "That's not a Duo-Sonic. That's a Mustang".

Lovely, man! Another cyclone fan here, mine is a squier that I had refinished and modded with a cyclone II loaded pickguard.

I paid £475, which seems to be a pretty good deal. I wouldn't be surprised if they reissue them soon - they'd fit right into the "Alternate Reality" theme.vistavision wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2019 8:06 pmWonderful! The mint pickguard looks great. That's a beaut! I think I'll be holding on to mine for along time though! It's strange how the p/g on the red ones seems to yellow and the ones on the blue ones seem to stay white...
That's really nice. Matching headstock and Jazzmaster knobs are a great touch.

Yeah cyclones are amazing!
I'm skeptical about the mint guard on yours... I think the pearloid works great on these, but yours definitely stand out as is!

I’ve had 2 blue ones and 3 red ones over the years. I keep coming back to them. Something about the scale length (perfect split between long and short) and the 3 jag pickups.....you just can’t beat it. So many amazing sounds. I love all 3 pickups on. I do want to upgrade the vibrato or dial it in a bit, but otherwise these are ace in my book

Do these have an RWRP middle?

If it is RWRP it will cancel hum.pesdispenser wrote: ↑Tue Jul 30, 2019 2:39 pmUsing it in conjunction with the bridge or neck pup produces that quacky sound, so I'd guess yes?

Re: NGD - '01 Fender Cyclone II
I've no hope of being able to pick up an actual Fender Cyclone II any time soon so looking at building my own as a lockdown project. I think my 'scavenged' Hohner JT60 makes an almost ideal donor guitar (it's been through the mill... and then some but the scale length is the same, the neck is really good & I can salvage the body with some time and materials; previous owner drilled massive holes in it, put loads of tiny nails all over the body and I think painted it with paint brushes.... no, I don't know why) but I think the trickiest part will be sorting out the 3 Jaguar pickups. Clearly the chances of getting a set of actual Cyclone II pickups are next to nill but I'm thinking I can get some suitable pickups made by someone like Toltec or QPickups for circa £100 if I can send them the right specifications (I have some Classic Vibe Jaguar pickups sitting in a drawer so if I'm lucky maybe I can use one of them to keep the costs down).

QPickups: https://www.qpickups.com/guitar-pickups/custom-pickups
Any chance anyone who has an actual Fender Cyclone II can tell me what the resistance is for each of the pickups? I've been surprised by how little information about them I've been able to find. Any other details you can share about the pickups would be great. It's a neck-bridge-neck configuration to sort out the hum right?
Before anyone suggests the Squier Paranormal Series Cyclone, sure, would be quite happy with one of them but alas would be about 2-3 times the price and not half as much fun as upcycling the Hohner JT60 ( I've got to say, I must look out for a Hohner JT60 in decent condition as I do really like it; they seem to go for about £100 on eBay)
Cheers

I like these guitars. I've never really noticed/paid attention before. I'd own/play one of those!

Happy NGD! I looked for one forever but settled when Squier released the Paranormal version.
