Re: New Harmony Silhoutte
I like the original design a lot, but I also really like these.
I would definitely consider one if I got it for cheaper than they’re selling for now.

Re: New Harmony Silhoutte
It looks like the perfect conceptual combination of a NRFB, Jazzmaster, and Toronado. I love all those designs, but I don't care for this too much. It's got decent bones, but the body is a lot of space and very little of it is utilized. It needs a trem of some kind near the butt to take up some of that. It would be a cool platform to mod, but not for that kind of money.

Re: New Harmony Silhoutte
This was 'launched' at the Winter NAMM 2018.
I remember seeing it promoted as I own an 80's Korean Harmony Strat (my first electric guitar) and was interested to see that they'd rebooted the original Brand.
(the Harmony name was licensed to a Korean manufacturer in the 80's to produce Strat, les paul copies)
I bookmarked the website and kept going back for updates but there never was until now.

I hated these, the pickguard definitely doesn't work for me.

Re: New Harmony Silhoutte
In all, it's a bit like a silhouette body with non-reverse firebird pickguard and electronics (plus a tele bridge). I'm a fan of silhouettes and firebirds, so this looks good to me. The photo looks like it might be a bit cobbled together, though: the headstock (and maybe the whole neck) seems to be horizontally squished to my eyes.
That said, the price tag is off the mark... way off it... imho.

Yeah. I believe they got at the time 4 different guitar models (Rebel, Silhouette and Jupiter and Juno). Maybe they gonna put out that last one after they release those amps.Squareball wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2019 1:23 amThis was 'launched' at the Winter NAMM 2018.

Re: New Harmony Silhouette
Dislike.
This is the third attempt to resurrect the Harmony name in the last 20 years (not counting the Korean-made Silvertone guitars made by Samick, which are well made).
In 2007 a guy with ties to music manufacture in Chicago (Charlie Subcez) put a lot of effort and money into recreating a large part of the 1960's Harmony line in Korea. They were announced at the 2007 NAMM show. You can find videos on YouTube showing them off. They look like very well made instruments, but they were as costly as vintage guitars and the company went belly-up quickly. There also was a trademark lawsuit that may have had a role.

The second attempt was from Cort or Westheimer (I think) also based out of Chicago with more cheaply made guitars from China. I have one of their Jupiters. It's meh.
The new models are the brainchild of the son of a Singapore-based billionaire. The only tie to the Harmony name is the name. This is the same guy who bought what was left of Cakewalk when Gibson was shedding it's non-instrument divisions and part of Rolling Stone, and founded BandLab.

ps. The billionaire father apparently is into Palm Oil big, which I have read in the news is fueling the loss of rain forest in Indonesia as the plantations grow to support the American snack food and makeup industries.

I didn't know any of that stuff about BandLab. Palm Oil thing was a last straw.

Re: New Harmony Silhouette
I think the draw of the old ones is that by today's aesthetic they're funky looking and kind of retrofuturistic. At least, that's what attracts me to the old Harmony guitars.
These new ones lack that retro-funkiness/found it in my grandma's basement that I associate with the brand. They look a bit sterile to me, which isn't a word I would have ever used to describe an old Harmony guitar.
Also, I always thought of them as cheapo guitars made from the cheapest components available at the time. Could be tough to change that perception of the brand. I'd surely get an old one for the price over the new.

Re: New Harmony Silhouette
This, uh, looks a lot like one of Doug Kauer's guitars.
I certainly hope that Doug sells more of them than "Harmony" does.

Re: New Harmony Silhouette
I wouldn’t mind owning onE of these, but it would have to be a good deal secondhand and also be a good guitar. I think they look solid and functional and I like that they went with mini hum sized gold fouls.

Re: New Harmony Silhouette
I was kind of interested in these when I first saw them; apparently they’re made in the Heritage factory in Kalamazoo and I kind of dig the Silhouette, but it’s one of those designs where if I look at it from the wrong angle it’s suddenly hideous to me. Learning about the new owner’s background pushes me a lot further away from being interested.

I really don’t mind the silhouette but am disturbed by the business connection
