Re: What do people think of the new pink paisley Jazzmasters?
Leokula, I think all of these guitars (paisley, blue flowers and TVL) are definitely finishes people will either love or hate. I like the oxlood colour on the TVL - very 60s, but one thing I dont like about it is on the headstock you cant see the Jazzmaster logo, which makes it look like those cheaper models that just have "fender" and no model name.
The paisley and floral are definitely flower power hippy shit, but thats whats cool about them. Some people will dig it, others will want to scrub their eyes out after seeing them. Personally I think they look cool, but as I said before, the blue flowers kind of reminds me of shower curtains.
Marc - that dusty pink wallpaper Jazz in the picture looks really nice too. Iv though about getting some wallpaper to refinish a guitar before, but I can imagine it would be a nightmare to do well.
As for the poly vs nitro question, maybe I should email Fender and see. Iv only heard of a few Japanese models being finished in nitro too, so it seems a little unusual to me, but the description on the link sounds as if its been copied directly from Fender.
It really is a shame Fender Japan continues to cheap out on hardware and electronics, because all Iv heard is they are otherwise such well built instruments, and a lot of people seem to prefer them over Mexicans and sometimes even USA Fenders.

@Kramertron2000 No cheap hardware or electronics with the one I just got, pickups are great too. I asked Fender which ones they used and this was their response:
“Thanks for contacting us. They do not appear to be the exact same as our Pure Vintage 65 pickups we make here in the States, but it will be built to the same specs just over in Japan. I hope this helps!”

I'm generally a fan, but between the large pickguard and trem plate, it does't leave much room for the paisley pattern. The blue flower pattern works better for me in that way. Still, they are both nice.

Interesting. I wonder how true that is though, considering the other Jazzmasters are basically just strat pickups in jazz covers. Glad to hear its high quality though.
ScottT: you're right about that - it doesnt work as well as on a strat or tele. Tbh Id sell a kidney to get one of the pink paisley jaguars they made a limited number of a few years ago, but wouldnt go that far for a jazz.
Still cool looking guitars though

I guess you’re referring to the older CIJ 90’s era JM’s with the Strat pickups...long time ago. I haven’t looked under the hood yet, but nothing at all stratty sounding about these pickups. There are bunches of YouTube demos already , they obviously don’t sound stratty at all.

Thats good to hear then. I have watched 2 youtube videos, and didnt sound stratty to me either, so I guess they are proper Jazz pickups.

Tried a pink one and thought it was great. Don't like 7.25" anymore, otherwise I'd have some major GAS to contend with.

I was hesitant to own another guitar with a 7.25 radius again, but it feels surprisingly great to me...I grew up playing Fenders with the vintage radius, so it kind of felt like coming home. Very liberating and refreshing, even bends are a breeze with this one.BoringPostcards wrote: ↑Tue Jul 24, 2018 9:10 pmTried a pink one and thought it was great. I agree - Im loving the 7.25" radius on the TVL, such a difference compared to basically every other guitar Iv owned, which are all at least 9.5". I do find I choke out on bends sometimes, but I mostly play rhythm, and I find the curvy radius great for barre chords. I also really like the vintage frets too.

Hem, I feel like I've missed something : Fender ended producting guitars in Japan in 2015, is that right ? So where the hell these ones are coming from ?
And to answer the question : I'll need a bunch of acids to like these colours...

I LOVE the pink paisley scheme. I've loved it on every Fender I've ever seen it on. As soon as I saw it on a Jazzmaster, I knew I had to have one. I have one en-route and should be to me Thursday. I played one locally, and like you guys I was more impressed with the finish in person. The silver background is killer. It's definitely a love it or hate it thing. I just happen to love it!

No, they never stopped producing guitars, that is an unfortunate myth/rumor that got floated around and it seems some people still believe it. What happened was Fender USA took over the Japanese business (previously operated by Fender Japan), but the guitars never stopped getting made in the Japanese factories.

I thought the guard was sprayed from the back to achieve the transition from opaque around the edges to tinted towards the middle?

Tacky and ugly gimmicks. They certainly don’t sound or play better. It’s simply a fashion thing and they are very much not in accordance with my taste.
