Yeah. For $2700 that pickguard should look a hell of a lot better.

Like it, apart from the Strat bridge. That does not fit so well. Half-Tele maybe, or wraparound?

I own a fretless bass, and I'm a bassist first, guitarist second... I own a fretless bass' and man are they kind of hard to play! Gotta really listen and 'negotiate' the note. I can only imagine how gosh darn hard a fretless guitar is. I bet chords are almost impossible unless serious practice was initiated. But I bet some cool solos or leads are possible!

Yeah, I can't imagine playing any kind of chords on a fretless guitar (I own a fretless bass also).
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

Yeah chords would be a chore to learn and execute in one position then intervals up and down the neck would be brutal.

I had a friend ages ago who defretted a guitar. He was a jazzer, and used it exclusively for soloing. He worked his way up to playing double-stops and the occasional triad, but they were pretty much only barres (like a fourth between most strings, or a major third between the 2nd and 3rd) for accuracy reasons.

It had a cool, muted sound that worked for jazz and pretty much nothing else. It felt like a high-friction slide guitar to play and I was very much useless at it when I tried it (I don't play slide) but would probably be a much easier transition for anyone competent at bottleneck.
The artist formerly known as mbene085.

Time to resurrect this thread!

Image

Make: Diego Vila Customs
Model: Austral Guitar / "Laura Palmer style"
Price: 3300 EUR
Body Material: Red Alder
Scale: 25.5"
Tremolo: Yes. No. Wraparound
Is the lower waist anywhere near the bridge: Absolutely!
Good / Ridiculous / Lame: This is a beauty. Does anyone have 3300 EUR burning a hole in their pocket?

Make: Chasing Vintage
Model: Cobra
Price: $2,550
Body Material: Alder
Scale: 25.5"
Tremolo: No. Cut Tele style bridge.
Is the lower waist anywhere near the bridge: Not near close enough for my tastes, at least.
Good / Ridiculous / Lame: Amazing! And just one of many beautifully designed offsets from Chasing Vintage.

Image

Make: Vintage Roots
Model: Offset
Price: $1,200
Scale: 25.5"
Tremolo: Bigsby
Is the lower waist anywhere near the bridge: Basically a JM body, so yes.
Good / Ridiculous / Lame: Seems pretty cool. The knob layout is literally all over the place but I bet very funcational. The F-holes are a bit large and it has a TOM, so that's not great.

Make: Duoton
Model: LD-1 Lo-Driver
Price: $2,499
Body material:: White Ash+Alder body with chestnut back (so basically all of them)
Scale: 24.75"
Tremolo: JM style
Is the lower waist anywhere near the bridge: Pretty close
Good / Ridiculous / Lame: If the trem and tuners were chrome and the 12th fret only had two dots, I would rock this. Starcaster headstock is a plus

Oversized F-holes always bother me! I wish people would pay more attention to that. If the purpose is to actually serve as sound holes, the size (area) doesn't really matter, what matters is the perimeter edge length for projecting more sound.

And... I don't want to look inside a guitar if there is nothing interesting to see. Design it all!

Otherwise, I like this one.

I had an itch the other day and turned my attention toward a project that this thread gave me the idea for a while back.

I have started a wiki to document all the offset waist guitars of the world at offsetwiki.com

Anyone interested in working on this project with me, send me a DM and I will create an account for you!
