I made this from an American Special Fender Jazzmaster body and a Warmoth neck (quartersawn maple). Pickups are Fender AV65. 4-way rotary switch with NOS switch tip. Sounds and plays great. Sold it, though, because my fun lies in making it, more than playing it :-)

How is everyone liking their Warmoth 65 12 string necks? I'm considering one for an upcoming build.

Can't believe no one posted an Eastwood Classic 12. Once I set it up it plays and sounds great for $400. Another affordable option for those that want this type of guitar in the arsenal but don't want to spend a lot.

Has anyone put flatwound strings on their 12 string and what type of compressor are you using?

Mine is a custom neck, not a Warmoth one because it won't work with an original or repro EXII 12-saddle bridge.

Yes, I used Pyramids flats, but I found them too heavy for my taste. I switched toward lightweight 12-string Ernie Ball Slinky set with .008 e and octave e string. My compressor is a Janglebox JB3.

This what I'm wondering about. I think my Danelectro 12 came with .010 on it. If I go to a flatwound set of the same gauge will this increase the tension? I don't want to mess with the neck or change the feel. (yes I know flatwounds feel different)

I use Thomastick flat wounds on my Eastwood classic. Love them. Use the janglebox compressor too. Made for twelve strings.

I've used Thomastik Infeld flats and they sounded great. They also seemed to last forever. (Currently using Rickenbacker branded round wounds. I recently heard that all companies get their unwound string material from the same supplier and then do the ends themselves. Somewhat mind-blowing, honestly).

I used a Janglebox for a while and it does what it advertises (60s jangle/strangle) almost too well. I personally prefer ones from the Ibanez family (CP10, UE400, etc) (but they could all be based on the same circuit). (Caveat: I seem to like 80s indie 12 string sounds more than 60s 12 string sounds, if that makes sense. In other words: Peter Buck > Roger McGuinn).

If you're going to use flatwounds, use Thomastik-Infelds. They are spendy but they're the best.

FWIW, the famous 12-string moments from George Harrison, Pete Townshend (Can't Explain, The Kids Are Alright, etc.), and Roger McGuinn all featured Rickenbacker guitars with scatterwound toaster pickups and Maxima flatwound strings, of which the TIs are almost identical.
