You're not shallow. The CSH-12 was a straight-up turd. Ugly semi-hollow superstrat that wouldn't stay in tune long enough to make it to the chorus of any song. Blech.
Heavy on the PRS/PoS vibe.

I got it (and flipped it) in my whirlwind "trying to find a bargain 12 string I like" phase over a couple of years, which also included an old Eko hollow body I should have kept (neck dive and all), Squier Venus XII, Hagstrom solid body 12, culminating in a Rickenbacker 330/12. I should have just dropped the cash for a Rickenbacker or Guild Starfire XII from the start and been done with it. (I think that I did manage to do a toothpick -> house series of guitar trades to get the 330/12 for a net cost of $350 or so, but at the cost of countless hours in front of the computer, at the post office, etc. Kind of fun, but I'm done).

Close. I think the former has been known to wear shorts on stage and do Hendrix/(possibly) Fripp licks, the latter more Joe Perry and Ace Frehley and leather pants with sneakers.

Just finishing up this project, and I'm pleased with the results so far- the Velvet Venus XII!

Does the trem knock it out of tune?

You have to be conscious of its limits, but it is actually a very useful effect, and much better suited to this bridge/trem combo than the one on the Schecter- more direct string route from the trem to the bridge.

If I really wank on it it'll go out of tune badly, but slow Kevin Shields waviness or mild-to-medium vibrato are achievable with ease.

Bit of a necropost, but this thread seems to be the right place for this. Not my guitar, a friend just got this in from Japan and came by to show me. Neither of us had heard of these before. He took a chance on it and is mightily pleased. Nicely made, cool details, neck-through, rings like a bell.

That's really funny to read the "Kamel Chenaouy" name here. The man is a luthier/designer/businessman who designed many innovative guitars in the 80s iirc, many with complicated onboard electronics and futuristic shapes, most of his stuff is still really expensive nowadays.
He was/is famous on the french language guitar internet from running his own forum, with many interesting insights, tips and answer about guitar building from the man itself, who if I remember right was pretty grumpy when his words weren't taken as law, but I can understand this given his past work.

That Kamel Chenaouy is wild! I'd love to get mitts on it- is it a one-off, or are there more out there somewhere?

I've been building an archive for my "SignoftheDragon's 12-string Roundup" thread on here for quite a while- I think I have about 50+ electric 12-strings catalogued and scored. One day I'll get it organized, finalized & posted.

I just get lazy sometimes. Or busy. Or both.

Here's a recent one-of-one custom build from JD guitars that has some cool features:

The headstock is the coolest bit:

^That's a pretty wild headstock, how does it function and hold up under string tension? You might be interested in this build I did a while back, I converted my Teisco K4/L to a 12. It was... a learning curve. The headstock has quite a bit of material removed from the inside, as yours has. It started to deflect a bit under tension, so I reinforced it after the fact (would have been much better if done while the neck was being built). I dropped the tuning to E flat- E flat and it's still holding fine after about ten years. Interested to know how yours performs.

Honestly, I haven't even had a chance to plug the JD in yet! (Pics are actually from the Reverb listing) but I have it tuned (to ear) and sitting behind my desk at the office. I pick it up to strum it dry a few times a week just because it's closest to hand. Tuning seems stable, neck is nice- a bit chunky for my usual taste, but not offensive.

THAT TEISCO, THO! I WANT IT! I've drooled over that one for a decade in my dreams- the headstock is just gorgeous! (Actually the whole thing is amazing)

I love EVERYTHING about this guitar-

Except the Brush Script font for the logo! DAMN WHOEVER MADE THAT FONT- STRAIGHT TO DESIGNER'S HELL WITH YOU! WHAT THE HELL IS A "7aurus"?!?

(just the grumpy old graphic designer in me- I guess we should be grateful it's not in Papyrus font or I'd TRULY LOSE MY SHYTE!)

***Deep breaths***

I love EVERYTHING about this guitar!
