I have an AvantGuard on order for my current JM project, very excited about it! Should look lovely on Charcoal Frost. Lava's just been dead out of stock every time I've checked and orders have been closed as long as I've been looking. Spitfire's look lovely but their pricing has gotten way outta hand.

Spitfire is great, and the range of options he has is ridiculous, but for sometimes it's a little bit too 'extra' if that makes sense?
I totally agree with that statement - sometimes the spitfire looks a bit too fire-y for me. But then I saw this LavaGuard. Definitely also a bit 'extra' but it spoke to me.

Thought I’d give this a bump because credit where credits due. New to me but not new, the lava guard on this one is superb and compares really well with the real guard on my 1962 Jaguar. Don’t think there’s a better repro maker out there for me.

I’ve owned vintage tort as well and I think the same thing.

Amazing picture. This might be the first side by side comparison I‘ve seen and it really shows how good Paul is at what he‘s doing.
By the way, will Lavaguards shrink?

Dont know, but this one is certainly wiggly ;D that may have been done as part of the light relic though, Im not sure.

Update! All change. The warping bugged me a bit. Spoke to Paul about whether hairdryer and weighting might sort it, and we decided that a new one made more sense. Went for the slightly brighter red of the mid 60s guards. Absolutely delighted with it.

I was totally fine with Fender tort until I saw these threads on OSG. I can’t unsee it now. Very happy with my Lavaguard still, and that one also looks great.

Indeed. Cannot unsee. Cannot unwant.

I think Lavaguards are the most legit of all repro tort guards. Have seen many spitfire guards in person too but Paul's guards capture the vintage look better IMHO.

On a 61/65 parts JM:

Wondering about the shaping on the lower horn of this guard? Is it just the angle or does it seem slightly off?

Certainly isn’t on either of mine
