I've been watching as many online review videos of the Rascal bass as I can find and while most seem pretty upbeat on build quality, it looks like the pickups may be a deal breaker. I'm seeing commentary about hollow and dark output and that's kind of a bummer since it looks swapping them would be pretty challenging. It's always tough to determine how a bass you haven't handled will fit into your style, but I'm guessing this one won't work for me. It's a minor relief I guess, bass looks cool but I really don't need another one!
It would be kind of fun to mod it by putting three Lipstick pickups in it like its Fender father.

Has anyone pulled the pickguard off a Jazzmaster XII? I'm interested in knowing if they have routes for rhythm circuit.

Thanks, I overlooked the other thread about the XII just below. There's a link to a Trogly YT video where he takes one apart. I played one today at GC. I'm ambivalent and trying to decide on a reasonably priced first 12-string.

I know this is the offset guitar forum, but if anyone gets their esquire deluxe on here and feels like posting the route underneath the pickguard, they should do that.

So I picked up my LPB XII from the shop yesterday, and asked after the Fiesta Red one to complete the triad- They said that the Fiesta one is ONLY available through Fender's website, and that they didn't have access to it at all as a dealer.

Has anyone else heard that? I have one in the cart on Fender's site- they even have a handy 10% off + free shipping deal. I'm just not sure how I feel about them wanking their dealers like that, so I haven't finalized the order.

The XII is GREAT, btw. If you're thinking about getting one, just do it. Best $400 12er out there.

Neck is REALLY glossy, Pickups are LOUD, but those are my only complaints.

Didn't listen to the audio? Is there a video you may have a link to?

In regards to the pickups they've been the only thing I've been a bit disappointed with, I'm finding they come out quite hot and a bit to crunchy because of it.

Thinking of trying to find something else I can replace them with cheap and low powered

I wondered that as well - so I think this confirms it that - at least this round - of special colors are Fender.com only.

possible noob question:
would it damage the XII in anyway just to rig it up as a six-string?

It would work. The truss-rod would probably need adjusting but other than that it will play as a 6 string.

Not at all. I played my ARXII as a 6 string for a while and loved it. Back to 12 strings now but for a while it was my favorite hardtail.
