I'm really sorry to hear that. I'm sure they had a happy, well-loved life with you though. Any memories you'd like to share?
I'm just in shock right now. he was only 3 years old. He was acting totally normal last night. playing, eating, purring.... then this morning we found him lying in the middle of the floor. I remember hearing a weird noise at night but i just went right back to sleep. My best guess is he fell off a ledge that is above our staircase. He's done it a couple times before. i think he must have hit his head or something.
Our family loved that cat more than a pet. He was such a social and friendly cat.
fuck.

That's awful. Pets really are family. I'm not sure if you know about the Blue Cross already (or where you're based / if it will be much help if you're outside of the UK) but I'll leave this here just in case:

So sorry MKR. I know how much a pet can become a family member and how much it hurts to lose them. At such a young age and seemingly fine, it is quite possible he had a stroke or seizure or something similar. My daughter lost a young cat from that. I lost my Springer Spaniel in simialar fashion. His pic is in my music room.........and now when I'm playing my beloved cat lays in the exact same place on the floor in that room that he used to...........

Sorry for your loss MKR. I lost my favorite cat last year, and it still hurts a bit. They are such like family, and people don't always get that.

That’s terrible
you have my condolences
Immediately upon reading this my cat wanted on my lap so I obliged and gave him a tight hug and told him I love him and thanks for being a boy and my best friend. I really need to show better patience with him - he’s a treat glutton and nobody can walk in the kitchen without him in tow, meowing until someone caves and tosses him a bone, regardless of how much time has elapsed since the previous attempt. Sometimes I’ll raise my voice a little and display my annoyance when instead I should just give him treats as often as he wants because like my dad said “he won’t be here forever - when he’s gone won’t you wish you just have him the treats?”
I want to give him all the treats and do nothing that doesn’t feel good for him in the time we have left. He’s my best friend and I can only imagine having that happen and it would be devastating. So sorry that happened to you but reading that scared me and makes me want to do better, so thank you for that at least. You’re in my thoughts
