NBD - Squier Sonic Bronco

Post by JazzLee » Sun Jun 04, 2023 12:13 pm

Hello everyone! Hope you are all doing great :) I recently bought a Squier Bronco bass from the new sonic line, and now I finally got a chance to do a NBD post!

Here's the bass:

I really love it, it plays really easily, there's no fret sprout or anything, the finish is flawless. I really like the maple fretboard and black markers with the all white body and pickguard. I'm just using it for playing around with at home, but it sounds great plugged in. I tried a fender player mustang bass for a while last year, and I really think this is just as good in terms of fit and finish. Has anyone else picked up one of these yet? Here's another pic:

And while I'm in the mood of posting pics, here's my 2006 Fender Jazzmaster CIJ:

I replaced the scratchplate on this one with one from earlpilanz on ebay, and although it's kind of fine, I don't really like it - anyone got any suggestions for better tort for a CIJ Jazzmaster?

The white on white looks so classy. If I ever get one I'm thinking white mustang knobs and a p-bass bridge cover 8)

Brian (earlpilanz) has a few torts available, and the red ones are the worse out of them....the browner ones are much much better.
Silly Rabbit, don't you know scooped mids are for kids?

It appears they improved a few things, such as the tuners and the bridge. I prefer the look of the old bridge, but I bet it’s nice to have 4 saddles.

With the Jazzmaster you could try white on white to match the bass -

Hey yeah I just ordered the same bass in the Tahitian Coral color. Can’t wait to get it!

I always feel like the basses I buy are too good for my bass skills so I bought this for $188 right from Fender. Can’t really beat that price. Plus all the reviews That I’ve been seeing keep praising it…yours included.

I currently have a fiesta red Fender precision bass but I really just need something for tracking in the studio and being a guitar player, I wanted something short scale and comfortable to play. I EQ the hell out of all of my bass tracks and use all kinds of preamps and saturation plugins so the actual bass itself doesn’t need to be an $800+ expense for what I do. I love the simplicity of these.

The only thing I plan on doing is putting on some La Bella flatwounds. I’m going to try and leave everything else stock unless something is really problematic.

I'm going to assume the pickguard is the same template as the last 8 years or so. I'm still cutting/selling Bronco guards and haven't had any problems.
Regarding good looking, quality red tortoise pickguard material- I've been searching for years. This year particularly has seen multiple instances of disappointment. Every time I think I've found something good, it's either different than I was expecting, misrepresented, too expensive for what it is, or a combination of all the above.

Congrats on the Bronco. I really feel that this model is a sleeper.
I had a black one with an “upgraded Strat pickup” that I sold to a dear friend for $50 - he was dealing with a shitty breakup and I hadn’t touched it for a while.
I can’t play bass for sh1z but it’s so handy to have a light little short scale to glue together your tracks.
